ZRemesher used with Half setting doesn't respect poly count

Hi,

I have a 3,5MP model. I am using ZRemesher with setting “Half” whose documentation says it will target half of the current subtools poly count. After processing, ZRemesher produces a mesh of 132 KP (tried with Adapt on and off, same result) -> this is not at all half of 3,5MP. Any idea?

ZBrush 4R7 patch 1 OS X.

Think of it as a rough guideline, sometimes a very rough guideline. Zremesher does whatever it wants. It’s like telling a child they can eat half their Halloween candy, half doesn’t really mean half.

well, I would have liked to use ZRemesher as tool to provide a relatively high-definition mesh, a bit like Dynamesh. Looks like this is not possible then?

Just set the poly count slider for the target number in the Zremesher settings

The max. setting here is 100 KP, this may not be high def enough. One alternative is the decimation master plugin, but the resulting topology is not as clean as ZRemesher.

ZRemesher is designed to produce good topology for a low resolution mesh. If you want high resolution all you need to do is subdivide the ZRemesher result until you have enough polygons then project the details from your original mesh.

A rough workflow might be:

  1. Duplicate the subtool you are working with.
  2. Use Decimation Master to reduce polycount so you don’t overload ZRemesher.
  3. ZRemesh.
  4. Subdivide result so you have enough polys.
  5. Project detail from the original high res mesh.

this method is neat! Thanks for sharing, details here : http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/topology/zremesher/transferring-detail/
