Zdepth Grabdoc not working! HELP!

Hello

I am having a problem and it would really appreciative some help. When I hit Grabdoc , I just get a alpha no depth information! what is it that I am doing wrong?

Any ideas? Let me know

Cheers

The alpha is the depth information.

Thanks for the reply

I do know the the alpha is meant to be the depth render but I am getting little
do no depth information , the image is almost made of white to see any grey scale values I need to play with the levels in photoshop and still they are very subtle

Here is what I am trying to do the image on the top is mine and the image on the bottom is what I want to achive.

Anyone have a guess what I may be doing wrong?

OK, that’s useful. I’ve no idea why this is happening.

You can test the depth grab like this:

  1. Start ZBrush, do not change any of the default settings.
  2. Load your model and place on the canvas. Do not enter Edit mode - or switch OFF if the model has been loaded automatically (this isn’t necessary for the depth grab, simply so we can clear the canvas later).
  3. Press Alpha>GrabDoc.
  4. Clear the canvas (Ctrl+N).
  5. Check that the grabdoc alpha is selected in the Alpha palette and press Alpha>CropAndFill.

If the canvas is filled so that your model looks as it should then the depth grab is OK (though note that the background will be filled too).

If the result is flat, you’ll need to give a few more details:

  1. Which version of ZBrush are you using?
  2. Does this happen with any model or just this one?
  3. Are you using a start up document with a different canvas size from the default?

Thanks,

Thanks again for your time

I manged to get it working , I think the problem lies in the fact I use a custom z document ( I find the black one hard to look at ) as when I pressed ctrl+n and used a new/default document everything worked just fine.

I also received some other possible solutions which I am going to post here as It may help someone else in the future

If your alpha is coming out completely black or completely white, there may be a scaling issue in which the scale of your tool isn’t working well within the document. Deformation>Unify can sometimes help with this, but if you have multiple subtools you’ll have to merge them with SubTool Master first. Give each subtool it’s own polygroup, merge everything with subtool master, unify, then break it back up into subtools if you wish, using the polygroups to aid the process.

Thanks again for your help
