ZBrushCore: Clay brush not working after mesh projection.

Hi there!
First post here, unfortunately I have run into a problem with ZBrushCore.
I was sculpting a character using ZBrushCore which I exported at lowest subdivision to Maya to correct mesh topology.
After reimporting the mesh to ZBrushCore and applying mesh projection, I found that the clay brush was not working properly (please refer the attached screenshots). The clay brush works fine before applying mesh projection.

  1. I did check to freeze transformations and clear history in Maya before importing the mesh into zbrush.
  2. There is no mask on the character anywhere inside Zbrushcore.
  3. I used .ma format for mesh import/export from zbrush.
  4. I found that increasing the size of the clay brush or zooming out on the character does make the brush work but then it is difficult to control stroke placement or sculpt properly.

My specs:
ZBrushCore4R7, Maya 2016(student version)
IntelCore i7-3.6GHz, 16GB RAM, NVidia-980Ti

Try pressing Tool>Masking>Clear. There may be some masking which is not visible. I can’t think of any other reason why the brush is not working as before.

Hi Marcus
Thank you for the reply.
I tried clearing the mask as you suggested but still the problem persists.
Other brushes seem to be working fine though, only clay brush is problematic.
Any other suggestion would be helpful.

I would recommend creating a support ticket on support.pixologic.com so you can share the model. Refer to this thread as well in the ticket.

I’m not able to duplicate any issue with my Maya and ZBrushCore.

What year of Maya are you using?

Hi
I already raised a ticket and shared relevant files with them. They are looking into it.
Regarding Maya version, as stated in the first post, its Maya 2016 student version.

Just an update on this issue. In response to the ticket, pixologic confirmed this bug with the clay brush in zbrushcore.
As explained in the top post, the issue occurs when modifying base mesh geometry in an external app. such as maya, reimporting it in zbrush and applying mesh projection.
There is no immediate fix atm. Recommended is to use Clay Buildup brush till pixologic provides a fix.
(*moans internally, gets back to sculpting:rolleyes:).
