Zbrush Pressure Sensitivity/Polling Rate Issue

This issue started for me about 3 months ago, and it has been slowly driving me crazy as I’m constantly having to slow myself down and redraw strokes because Zbrush fails to register a smooth falloff at the end of a stroke. As you can see in the images below, the end of the strokes are stair-stepping down in intensity and size instead of creating a smooth falloff. I’m not sculpting very quickly, I’d say I’m probably even on the low end of average in terms of how fast I sculpt, and this issue occurs for me when drawing at even just a moderate pace.

The plane I’m sculpting on in the images is not very high, only 262K polys. I have tried editing the stroke in every way I can think of, both in the brush settings and the stroke palette, I’ve tried using lazy mouse and editing my tablets’ settings. I have also tested out 2 different tablets, an Intuos Pro and a screened XP-Pen, and get the same issue on both inside Zbrush, and my tablet drivers are up to date. The first version I think this happened on was Zbrush 2021, and I still get it in the new Zbrush 2022. Stroke sensitivity and falloff seem to work perfectly fine in other programs I’ve tested like Photoshop.

My PC specs are:
Ryzen 7 2700X
32GB of RAM
Nvidia RTX 3070
Windows 10 Home

I also noticed this recently. I think it’s related to zbrush’s poor implementation of windows ink. I guess Microsoft updated windows ink API though patch after 20h2, if you try a clean win10 1909 installation and run any program that can trigger the GPU into high power mode like Microsoft 3D Viewer in background, you will find that Zbrush‘s cursor is butter smooth!!
Hope they will fix it one day

Hi there,
I am having the same problem, did the fresh instalation of Windows work for you or how did you fix the problem?
I have also tested the problem in 2 tablets, in my case Huion Kamvas Pro 16 and Wacom Intuos M, tried getting the latest and also old version of the drivers for both tablets, tried Zbrush’s Preference/Tablet/Tablet Driver API modes and none of them works as it should. I also tried uninstalling one of the two tablet’s drivers to see if they were interfering with each other but no luck either.

My PC specs are:
Intel(R) Core™ i7-10875H CPU @ 2.30GHz, 2304 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)
64GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070
Windows 10 Pro

Hope you found the way to solve it

Cheers
