Zbrush mask won't clear

So I’ve been running into a frequent issue. My zbrush mask won’t clear from history. When I mask over part of an object, the mask shows. I then clear it so no mask is showing, but when I mask any other part of the mesh, the original mask shows back up with the new masked area. The mask history remains, and it just keeps adding onto new masks. I’ve cleared the mask, I don’t have a mask stored or saved, I’ve tried appending a new tool with no luck either. I’ve also tried bringing the tool into a new ztool. Sometimes this work, sometimes it doesn’t but it isn’t reliable for a solution.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

How are you clearing the mask? Does cloning the model help (press the Clone button at the top of the Tool palette and be sure to select the clone)? Also you could try deleting the undo history in the Edit menu.

I’ve tried cloning the subtool, as well as deleting undo history, no luck. I’ve cleared the mask both by ctrl+shift off the model, as well as under the masking options<Clear. When loading the ztool, the mask is actually saved, so it’s like it is stored with the subtool itself, even though there is no stored mask. Just not sure if this a corruption with my zbrush and a reinstall is the fix, or if i unknowingly toggled an option that is causing this to happen. This isn’t the first subtool/model I’ve had this happen to.
