Zbrush crashes when keyshot render is in progress or paused

Is there a fix for this or workaround?
Very messy and I’ve been living with this for a long time.

For me, Zbrush always crashes (kills Zbrush, requires relaunch) under the following circumstances:

Do a BPR render to keyshot

  • when another keyshot render is in progress
    OR
  • when keyshot render is Paused
    OR
  • when Keyshot render has it’s render-complete windows still open

I get “Unable to connect to external renderer” warning, then Zbrush vanishes.

This has been happening since I got keyshot in early 2019.
The issue exists on Zbrush 2018 thru 2020.1.3
Keyshot Pro 8.2.80
Mac OSx Mojave 10.14.6

Sorry you’re having some trouble.

Im afraid I don’t experience any of this. I did have quite a bit of trouble keeping Keyshot from crashing when v9 was released, but subsequent updates have fixed this issue.

Here are some known issues that contribute to frequent Zbrush crashing, independent of KS. Note that trying to work with file sizes/meshes larger/denser than your system can handle will cause program instability across the board. If you’re using all your system resources to render a scene in KS, there wont be much left for Zbrush, and any attempt to use it concurrently may cause a crash.

If none of those are applicable, you will have to contact Pixologic Support. The other users on the community boards are not equipped to help you with system specific technical issues. These types of issues need to go to Support.

I couldn’t view those links, but if it is a system resource issue, it crashes even when rendering a single primitive after a fresh reload of both brush and keyshot (as shown in my example). It even crashes after the key shot render is completed.

Yes, unfortunately Pixologic updated their support pages over the holiday weekend, and most of the content from the Knowledgebase appears to have gone missing for the time being.
