ZBrush and Tarot cards

Hi,

Please, I wish to know if anyone of you have used the ZBrush to produce images for publishing a Tarot deck.

I think that ZBrush is a very powerfull painting program which can be used with great successs to paint a complete set of Tarot cards but I havent found any information on this yet.

Any ZBrush images for Tarot ?

Please, I wish to have your comments and any advices you may have on ZBrush for painting a Tarot deck from scratch.

Thanks in advance.

Happy New Year to all

Hello Tammilo.

As with any illustration work always KNOW your subject.

Find as many examples of past decks as you can. From there only YOUR imagination matters.

ZBrush would make a great 2D paint program for such an event. You’ll have best success if you also utilize a program like Photoshop to “prep” your work for a printer.

Set the document size in ZBrush 4 times the size you will need to send to the printer. Paint, render, save and export as a Bmp. (or PSD if you have photoshop)

use photoshop to set your watermarks, crops, bleeds, and centers. 300ppi preferably.

ZBrush will do just great for the art.
Photoshop (or an editing software) for preprint packing.

Hi, and welcome!

I once played around with ZBrush to create the World card for a deck, but never got around to doing the entire project. It’s actually a hybrid image, using Poser and Photoshop elements as well, all rendered in ZBrush. You can find it at my gallery (link at the bottom of the post) in the Hybrid section.

In general, ZBrush can be used to paint practically anything that you can imagine. I’m sure that a deck done using the program could be truly beautiful. It’s a huge undertaking (a deck has what? 74 cards?). But it could be well worth the effort.

My advice beyond what Kathy just wrote while I was typing would be to find a theme or style that you like, and make sure that each card fits within that theme. Make sure that it’s something that you’ll enjoy, and also something that offers enough flexibility to make every card unique.

With Aurick’s Permission, and all others, maybe you could start collecting Tarot Images and assemble the best ones into a deck.
Not that one needs a reason to create with Z-brush, but I bet some of the folk floating around here could contribute some great card images.

You would need a standard size for everyone to follow, and preferably a .psd format to make print conversion easier down the road…

Sounds like a fun idea!

hello and welcome to the z… sorry to say i havent gotten into the tarot cards but it sounds like a great project… hope to see some of your work soon…
