Wise Ones - (WIP)

I’m currently fixated on creating characters that exude a wise energy. I’d like to create three wise beings in all.

Here's my rough concept sketch and initial Zbrush sculpt of the first wise one - There's lots of work left on this first guy, but I'm having fun exploring this theme. Your comments and critiques are appreciated.

cool model- now topo your extracts is the ticket! :+1: :+1:

Thanks Gary, I appreciate you comments.

Here’s the retopologized version of this guy -

I think I could reduce the density of polygons in certain areas.

Hi Eric, cool new sculpt! Love the sketch too - nice ‘n loose. :+1: . lookin’ forward to the updates.

Thats a really nice idea Eric and a great start. Watching your thread from now on

Thanks for the comments Etcher and scottleroc. They’re much appreciated

Here's the second wise being - Wise Two

That second one is so awesome, reminds me of H.P.Lovecraft but in some cool Hellboy style !!

Your are an artist man !
i choose one pic in my 3D collection :+1:

cool … i am a big fan of the second character … design and model both looks great.

Very cool work!!!

love the designs

These models just prove that you cannot create anything that hasn’t got it’s origin in something else. The second model, the hammerhead shark http://wallpapers.diq.ru/en/15_~_Scalloped_Hammerhead_Shark.html, right?

I was just walking along the cost yesterday and saw some wind surfers, and those sails must be a copy of insect wings http://www.cybersurf.co.nz/windsurfing/images/windsurf.jpg

Great work, cheers!

I agree with the Lovecraft / Hellboy comment. Cool stuff.

cool char! what about digging in a bit more and raising elements out ? The engraving looks a bit flat to me, it would improve a lot from some breakup in the primary forms on the surface

hey man very good work!!
can you explane how made Wise Two new topology in 3ds max? thank you

fantastic silhouette on the last piece, keep up the good work

MITrAndir: Thanks for the compliment. I’m not as familiar with H.P. Lovecraft as I should be. I haven’t seen Hellboy either, but I am a fan of Guillermo del Toro’s work. The creatures in his movies are always so well done.

scottleroc, OlirO, nightwoodwolf, UnitO, Sleet: Thanks guys, I greatly appreciate your kind words. cherub_rock: I agree. I think most of what people think of as original ideas or designs are usually ideas that have been borrowed from nature. I see this in art as well as science. Even an idea as revolutionary and as extremely novel as the Theory of Relativity seems to mostly stem from Einstein's long ponderings on the natural world. It's funny that you mention your walking on the coast. I came up with the design for these wise ones while hiking. So, I was just letting my thoughts wonder rather then thinking about any thing specific. But I'm sure swirling around my subconscious were the tons of previously viewed examples of other artists' work and examples from nature I've seen. One of those examples very well may have been the Hammerhead character from the original Star Wars. They didn't try hiding the fact that his design was inspired by a hammerhead shark. His name is hammerhead :)- sephirothsinic: Thanks man. Yes, The surfaces/skin of both characters is lacking at the moment. I'm waiting to finish the design for the third wise one and then I'm going to go back and add all sorts of organic texturing to their skins. Holy crap, your Berith, demon of Blasphemy and Slaughter is one mean mother :). Such an awesome work. Freak: Thanks. Unfortunately, I don't have any great shortcuts for creating new topology in Max. I first export the sculpt from ZBrush at a medium subdivision level so as not to crash Max. Of course the new Decimation plugin makes this easier. Within Max I begin building the new topology by first looking for places on the sculpt for good edge loops. When creating the new topology I'm also considering how everything should flow in order to make the mesh more easy to animate. I basically follow the strong lines of the ZBrush sculpt.

Thanks for replying and the info! Somehow people tend to miss the meaning of originality. It means that has and origin in something, and isn’t something that is made up.

Cheers and best of luck in your work

CR

It seams that it would have been mutch easyer for you to use the topology tools in z-brush to make the new topology. How come you dident is there a spesific reason coz if you dont know about that you should cheak it out it would save you sooo mutch work.

this stuff would 3D print so well…beautiful work.

Hi Eric! The second one is beautiful! (even the retopo pics are beautiful imho! they are so well done…) These sculpts do spark the imagination of the viewer, cause they really seem to have a history behind them that goes way back… this probably connects to what you and Cherub said on originality - totally agree! So looking forward to the next one
