WIP : Ichigo Kurosaki Age 15

I tried past two day to work on the terminatorish pic but everytime i did i got stumped what to do next so i decided i needed to try something im more familiar with… sooooo i went with anime… Little less detail needed for the modeling but lil bit trickier with the anime proportions… this is far from complete… want to add in blood and tape under eye before i consider whether i want to make body or not… anyways here begins the start of

nice! definitely one of the first bleach things ive seen here! watch my bleach video! heheh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri-YiqM06B8&feature=channel_page

thanks man… think it’s worth me attempting full body? (i think at this point it’s guarenteed i gonna try at least  )

well… decided to work on the body  … here’s the inital pose just used for placement of the outfit… gonna build a jacket and puffy pants (if you’ve seen bleach you’ll know) out of the body model, and then start working on a sword… once that all in place i’ll go back and detail until i get it to look like a solid 3d manga panel

and 1 last update before i head home for day :

honestly practicing human male anatomy is really hard i suggest we try and model hollows for a while … its fun to practice anatomy of cool creatures cuz nobody can tell you your doing it wrong.

hehe… after i finish up ichigo may have to try that

and thus, you will never get better either. that’s a bad mentality to have because critiques are fundamental for improvement. If you want to get better that is… if you’re just playing around I guess it doesn’t matter.

eldee i agree with you. but i also think that practicing modeling any type of complex organic models such as humans animals, monsters, is all good practice. in my opinion if you master any of these things you will be good at the other as well, and i also think that doing monsters and new creations is the best way to get familiar with the process. your still practicing anatomy and form , but u can also use creativity. i never said critiques are bad either.

yeah and im all for crits myself… only way someone can figure out what they are doing wrong is for someone to point it out…im picking things up as i go along and trying to get myself in the habit of finishing what i start… right now thats ichigo here and i hope to have some more done today… after that either i do some more face/body work or i try some creatures… either way i get myself a lil better each time, no? thats the whole point imho

quick updates for now… pants puffed… sword sworded… next up little details like sandals and tape wrappings on feet… then time to spruce up the hands and go on a re-topo binge to make it as smooth as possible so the cavity mat i use comes out as clean sketch looking as possible… then the debate is when its all finished do i take into photoshop and completely flatten it and-recolor it into a drawn looking manga panel… hmmmmmm choices

Great work so far, keep it up. I love ichigo. Anyway, here comes the CnC.

While your cloth that you’re rendering is very near to the image you’re using as reference remember that 2D can get away with a lot that you just can’t do in 3D. I would take a look at some draping cloth and take a TON of pictures to use as reference. Also, get a friend to grab a bed sheet or something like that and drape it around them and take pictures. Have them stand in that stance, or if you have a good enough camera, have they moving into that pose so you can actually get the way the cloth works in motion.

The form of your character is off from what I can tell. The shoulders aren’t pushed forward enough, or at a sharp enough angle. I am attaching some quick paintovers (hope you don’t mind). Try to grab either a Zsphere skeleton and get the pose you need, or just a base mesh and pose him, then you can work your sculpt around the new pose that you’ve made. (really easy with Zspheres).

Also, you should turn off your textures/polypaint that you have. No amount of color can change the sculpt, but it can get in the way. Always (well, not always, but mostly) work with a single color and material on your models. Think, real clay, you don’t paint it and then sculpt it. You should work the same with digital clay.

Other notes…doesn’t ichigo wear shoes?

Hope this helps.

i agree with goast666 on everything. the black texture on his robe is too dark (i suggest you dont make solid black as a texture, maybe dark gray?) because with subtools and how easy zbrush made sculpting cloth onto muscle i suggest you work more on his muscles…, it looks like your spending a lot of time on the robe. if you perfected his muscles and his core, then it would be a lot easier to make the right wrinkles in the cloth. example: drop a square of cloth onto his flexing bicept , press the cloth onto him where there would be the most pressure, and then figure out where it would drop … another suggestion is that you model him in a relaxed T pose with symmetry and his arms to his side. you can make blend shapes in maya with the transpose tool to reposition him to his fighting energy stance

thanks for the comps and crits… i added shoes and cleaned a few things up… not sure how/if i wanna go about re-posing at this point but it’s advice i will definitely take for future modeling… if i dont just end up reposing now anyways…

the coloring on everything for now is just to help me not for finality sake… i stil plan on goin back and re-topo-ing everything before i put on final color this way everything flows right… or i think i plan on it  … will see … for now im gonna revisit problem areas one at a time to try to make it cleaner…

oh and the heavy heavy black is actually intended but again the final effect i havent gone for yet… in the end i want ichigo’s unique reddish spiritual energy to be crackling around him, so all the dark dark black is gonna be lit with a deep maroon… trying to find right blend of colors but at this stage grey doesn’t cut it for the mix so was leaving it black for testing

i would like to see this with more fury and more detail with realistic color.if you dont want to tamper with this try onother version i look forward to seeing it.
