For instance, if I start with a thick plane and turn on the backface masking button, when I use masking pen to mark an area on one side, the opposite side is still masked!
What could I have done wrong?

Hi, I haven’t found this to be a problem (when using the lasso for example) however I’m having problems with mask blurring. It blurs slightly, once, then wont go past this level (even if I put the blur setting in prefs up to 100!!).
which button are you refering?

Is not working for me neither applying masking pen nor lasso
The mask just simply goes through to the other side

It’s probably broken like cavity masking. Hopefully fixed in an update sometime.
