Why does my colors render dull and greyish in Keyshot

Anyone that knows what’s going on?

If I send my polypainted model to Keyshot it looks so dark.
If I apply a Keyshot material instead, such as a paint it gets ‘normal’ bright.
If I apply a Keyshot material while holding alt so that the texture wont be replaced then it gets a dull greyish color.
It looks to me as even if I paint something totally white i zBrush it goes over as a grey texture.

What am I doing wrong here?

What material did you have active when sending it to Keyshot? It will embed that material as part of the polypaint texture. Try sending with a flat color material applied, or some other lighter material.

The the lighter materials i tried was SkinShade4 and I think flat color.
But should not such material settings had been replaced when i replace them with a Keyshot material while holding alt?

Anyway…
I just made a small test on two spheres with SkinShader4, painted in white with some colorful doodling on top.
One of them used polypaint and one I converted polypaint to texture and the look axactly the same and are not greyish.
So it seems as it has to do with the model.

Gonna try reload it and start over.
Doing the same as with the spheres and dropping all subtools as well in to try and figure out where it goes wrong.

Zbrush sends the visual appearance of any active or embedded material as part of the polypaint texture map to Keyshot. If you have a material with a greyish appearance active, the object will have a greyish appearance in Keyshot in order to try and recreate the Zbrush appearance.

Holding ALT while dragging a material ball in Keyshot only changes the surface properties of the object. It will leave the texture alone (assuming the material type supports it…some do not.), which is where that color is located.

To avoid any material influence at all, apply the flat color material in zbrush before sending. If you want the object to interact with the Keyshot material colors, enable the “blend with color” option in the material properties panel in Keyshot.

Note that there are sometimes issues with getting a material to update in keyshot when sending again from Zbrush. I find I sometimes have to switch on “group by materials” in order to get Keyshot to update it.

Well, I made a new try with most subtools.
It still works so far.

Anyone that knows how to get texture back on material once it been replaced with a Keyshoot material?
I tried using alt drag with the hope that Keyshot would remember what the original texture was and maybe go back to a zbrush texture with Keyshot material mode.

But that crashed Keyshot so hard that zBrush cant find it anymore.
Will probably have to restart the computer.
:o

Adding fibers as well and it still works.
Think we can close this one for now as I can’t recreate it.

Only useful information from this is that.
If Keyshot crashes on you and zBrush no longer can launch it, then it wont help to restart the computer.
Instead, just start keyshot manually.
After that the bridge will be able to communicate with Keyshot again.

Got that grayish dull color again.
This time I think I fixed it.

When KeyShot skin material is alt + draged to the polypainted model it sets the skin material up with the polypaint as the material as it should, but…
There is also another setting that has effect on the color of things and that is the Surface Color on the Properties tab.
This property keeps it’s value as set up from the material witch makes the polypanted material look dull.
Changing this to white and you will get close to what the polypainted material looks like.
