Which Tablet to get?!

Ok,

I am going to finally get a tablet.

It will be a Wacom Intuos3 for sure, but not sure on 6x8 or 9x12.

Can someone explain the REAL benefit on choosing the 9x12 over the 6x8?

Is the 9x12 to large? is the 6x8 just right?

I’ve read the reviews but as far as for zbrush, what do you guys use.
as well as xsi and of course photoshop.

thanks!

I prefers Cintiq and I have HP tablet PC and a USB 17 inch tablet.

Small tablet is a bit annoying and more stress. I would go with 17 inch tablet to save myself from headaches.

So the larger the Tablet the better in other words.
Cool, that’s kinda what I thought.

thanks washington

Not too big

yeah, I a kinda starting really so 9x12 seem like a good choice!

My Wacom is 12 x 12, it gives you plenty of room for extravagent strokes, plus the tablet is 1:1 with the monitor at 1600 x 1200…

I ordered the Wacom Intuos3 9X12 USB Tablet - Metallic Gray

By the way what does the 1:1 mean Buckie?

1:1 is equation for equal
1:2 is disadvantage because you lose 50 percent resolution between tablet and PC display
2:1 is advantage, you gain 50 percent resolution over the pc display

Here is the specs on the Intuos 9x12 that’s coming to me in the mail.
I don’t see that ratio. I’m starting off so I’m not all that worried about not getting the top of the line stuff just yet

Tablet Dimensions: 17.3" x 13.4" x .6"
Active Area: 9" x 12"
Pressure Levels: 1024
Resolution: 5080 lpi
Max. data rate: 200 pps
Accuracy: ± .01"
Tilt Range: ±60º

I am little bit worried about 9x12 you are getting.

You probably will have to take some adjustment with ratio difference with tablet and display. It is like fitting in new small shoes. If your happy with it then I am happy.

I have the Wacom Intuos 3, 9x12.

It does work nicely (IMHO…) if you have a monitor with a viewable display to kinda match your 9x12 active area on your tablet, as your eye to hand coordination will feel more like 1:1 ratio from the tablet to your screen.

And/but, the tablet is HIGHLY customizable in all areas. Experiment and get it to react just how you like, pretty much no matter what you have your desktop resolution set to, OR even to what your document is set to in ZBrush.

I will say it WAS more work at first to do everything since I was using larger back and forth hand motions than I would do with the old wrist movement and a mouse. But, eventually you get used to it. (and, I still am, being new to my tablet and ZBrush)

A 9x12 is a little large to have on your desk or to prop on your lap, BUT, that size is very nice when working with ZBrush, or just painting. It’s worth it, imho.
