Washed out polypaint colors

Hows it going guys, i was wondering if any one has expirenced the “dulled down” colors you get once you bring your texture map from Zbrush into maya.

Ive got the base colors for my character via poly paint but they look nothing like how they did in Zbrush. they look almost washed out so to speak. and theres alot of color bleeding in areas ( the color seems spill over slightly into areas i didnt paint in zbrush)

Its not much of a problem but im just curious as to how maya and zbrush read RGB diffferently?

Is there a specific export setting im suppose to use before exporting the texture map? ive done my actual “texturing” on a different layer in photoshop so all id need to do is export a new poly paint base once you guys would be so kind enough to answer.

Thanks,

Pixologic or death!

does it also look washed out in photoshop?

Yeah it looks washed out in photoshop… =/ all i can do is set it to multiply to try and salvage at least some of the color.

I’m sure you already tried it but… you’re looking at the polypaint on the Flat Material, right? otherwise the colors wouldn’t be what you’re expecting to get…

This may be also a dumb advice but… you should make the “New texture from polypaint” on the highest subd level, so you get the most details from the painting.

yeah i painted on the highest level possible. but perhaps doing the “new texture from poly paint on that level is what i did wrong”

the base i started with was a matcap white. not a flat shader. i

Make sure that the RGB Intensity slider is set to 100. You should also be at the highest subdivision level when creating a texture from polypaint.

Again. i was painting at the highest level there was. Do you mean the rgb intensity slider has to be up 100% BEFORE exporting the texture map?

or do you mean i should be painting with 100% intensity throughout the texturing process?

vivid thanks for this post. it just saved MY but! i was having the same problem. yeah you have to have the rgb to 100 when you generate the texture map. you CAN have the color down while you’re poly painting.

Indeed. thank you guys! you guys rock.
