Hey great work, calum. Great attention to detail throughout - I especially like the horns and the sci-fi element to this! Only suggestion is if this is combat armor, it is a little thin, and would not protect the face all that well with all the gaps. This is more like ceremonial armor, which is fine, but I’m not sure if that is what you are going for.
Looking forward to updates! Goodluck, and do you plan on texturing this?
wow how impressive the detail is superv nice
Very good details… I like a lot the helmet…
I’ve got to say I love this one Calum. You may want to take a closer look at the eyes again as they pull the eyes off a bit. But overall a very strong concept and sculpt so far.
Wayne…
blindmice:Thankyou for your remarks and observations.I agree on the armour if it was for battle, but its more a design style for the upper hireachy . I will be texturing him when the full model is completed.Thankyou!.
(v)olotov:Thanks for your remarks, makes me happy that some people like my work.
piz:Thanks also mate,much appreciated.
DarthWayne:One of my virtual tutors!!,means alot to get some feedback from one of my main learning resources.Thankyou!Would you mind explaining your ’ pull eyes off a bit’ please.Any crits suggestions from you are immensley appreicated.

OK I’ll try and explain what I meant in more detail. Incidentally this is the same advice someone once gave me when at a similar stage of sculpting development.
As the eyes will always be ‘the window to the soul’ in any piece of art they require a bit more attnetion to detail in order to ‘sell them’ as real. At the moment you have a good sense of weight in the eye bags, but the lid area itself doesn’t have the same ‘weight’ to it.
Alot of times this is caused by the ‘almond shaped hole for an eye’ that people do as its how we think of an eye symbolically. If you take close observation of a human eye it will help outline areas to improve., in fact download as many large photos of a eye on google as you can…it helps a low.
I also find that looking at eye designs from old DC and marvel comic characters are useful for getting interesting and beliveable eye shapes. But anyway onto the the details…
At the moment the eye doesn’t have any sign of a caruncle at all… this small bit of anantomy can help a heck of a lot. Its probably only 1 min job to sculpt it in and is no ‘biggy’. The upper lid usually has more thickness to it helping to sell a sense of weight and personality. Also the upper lid on some people folds under the orbital area. Tis isn’taconstant though as Iknow quitea few people that it doesn’t do this…either that or all my freinds are freaks of nature lol. Remeber also not to make the lids to thin, thicker lids are usual more belivable in my experience.
My tip would be to sit with a pencil and pad and draw eyes for a few hours …be very self critical do try a number of styles. The eyes upper and lower lids look a bit too similar in shape at the moment. I’ll upload a quick 30 second mess around in photoshop with one of the eyes to show what I mean. (Obviously its not going to be great with 30 seconds work in photoshop, but it should outline what I mean.)
Hope that helps, if anything needs clarifiing just give me a shout. I hope that didn’t come across negative in anyway as I think this sculpt has some serious possibilites. Your coming on leaps and bounds of late…
Wayne…
PS what I meant by throwing the eye off, is that sometimes the human eye will be drawn to the least well developed detail of a scupt and sometimes totally ignore the best stuff. As the human being is programmed from birth to recognise the eyes nose and mouth combination on a face its good to nail those first.
If your ever up my neck of the woods give me a shout.

This great work Calum, i really like the detail. Only crit i can see is what DarthWayne, picked up on the eye’s. But the eye are not my stongest, area so I think I may take DW advice aswell.
Keep posting, I’m looking forward to seeing this character develope.

I’m just glad it helped mate, I rarely use reference but till you get the magic formula of what shape things are in 3 dimemsions its well worth keeping a reference folder. Not just photos but interesting artwork and traditional sculpture. [i](This means even once you have it all ‘nailed’, if you notice at any point things geting a bit ‘samey’ you can drag some stuff out of your folder for insperation and how it changes things.)

Anything other than bodily contact and Im your man lol.Serioulsy thankyou ,cant say it enough.Your knowledge has been a godsend along side zb3.Put a tarif on your tuts man, your worth it!!I’d pay(ask cannedmushrooms)
Love to have a drink If Im ever up that way,
cheers cal
Right now I can’t say anything about video tuts at the moment except ‘watch this space …soon for a suprise.’
Yeah I’d have to give the bodily contact thing a miss as well…my wife would kill me lol. Being in the back of beyond right now I dont see alot of real life 3d guys…there is of course ‘numpty’ my invisible 60ft donkey…but I’m guessing thats just work pressure.
No artist is ever perfect at what they do , all of us have areas we’d like to improve on. Its what keeps it ‘interesting’ really.
Wayne…
looks great!
not sure about the lips. they need more depth between of them.
keep it up and and make a toprow image from this baby =)
