Wacom but which one?

i have a long time thought of getting an wacom but which one to start with? is it only intuos or maybe can i start with bamboo?

kind regards Isak

as long as it has pen pressure sencitivetyother than that, i’m pretty sure they all do the same thing.

Actually, I looked into this awhile ago. The Intuos 4 x 6 has a lot more resolution than the 4 x6 Bamboo so I think it would make a difference in painting at least, but I’m not sure if the difference would be noticable when sculpting in ZBrush.

If anyone who’s tried both the Intuos and Bamboo in Zbrush could offer some advice I would also be interested. At my local store the 4x6 Bamboo was $90 and the 4x6 Intuos was $250 so there’s quite a difference in price too. What about if a person wants to use the tablet for painting and sculpting? Will the bamboo do the job?

Thanks

I can assure you they don’t all do the same thing. I recommend you stretch your wallet as far as it will go when it comes to tablets. My first table was a Trust branded piece of poo that had a diabolical response time and you had to hold the pen perfectly vertical

I went onto a Graphire 3 A4 which is great but my only gripe with it is that its too big. For me I preffer the smaller tablets, they fit my desk better and I don’t have to move my hand as much

I use an Intuos 3 A5 size at work and its the best table i’ve ever used. The surface is perfect, there is almost no resistance on the pen (the graphire has some kind of frosted plastic hard shell think thats a bit rough on the pen) and it just feels natural.

Anyways thats my 2cents, I would recommend the more expensive level tablet rather than an entry level hobbyist one if your serious about your 3d work. If not, got for the Graphire range.

I have a wacom intuos a4 and it is amazing. I used to have a graphire and the difference is definately noticeable, alot more pressure sensative.

bamboo is not a good choice then? dont knew if other has the same problem but if we say that i will choose the intuos then comes the problem which siiiize:P

i dont wanna do the misstake to buy an who is to small!

Was thinking of intuos 3 a5 or 6x8 i think it is in inches;)

is that a good choice?

kind regards:)

i just bought an intuos 3 a5 size and its good  happy to hear roxmysox likes it too. Not cheap tho!! i paid $550 aus, and the intuos a4 was $750 aus

The A5 Intuos 3 is pricey but well worth it. The Bamboo is a waste of time and money, I guarantee when you buy it you’ll like it for a few days then wish you splashed out on the top guns. I know I did with my Graphire.

I got a graphire at home and intuos at work. The intuos is a lot more comfy like r0xmys0x said. But the graphire isn’t a bad buy either.

Anyone here got a cintiq 12wx? I’d like to know what thats like to work on and can i use my 2 screens and the cintiq as a 3rd?

I’ve not used a Cintiq 12wx but I have had a go on a Cintiq 21UX briefly and I think its a fantastic way to work. To be honest I can’t see it being a necessary edition to an artist arsenal but its defiantly an awesome luxury. Drawing on the screen feels like drawing on an Intuos so its the best of both a great display and a great tablet. I’m sure the 12wx will be very similar. As for using 2 monitors and the cintiq at the same time I think you’ll need a graphics card that can support more than two monitors or be running 2 cards.

To be honest, I rather go with Intuos than Bamboo. Intuos can be a bit more expensive but it has a better cost-benefit relation. Bamboo has less pressure points, and its kind new in the market, always worked with Intuos here and never felt left in my jobs.

And, well, Graphire, just to add, it´s an excelent table too.
It´s your choice.

Cool. Anyone know if the 8800gtx can take 2 screens and a wacom cintiq?

hi there isaac, i recently got myself wacom Intuos3 6 x 8 and i must say tht experince and feel is unspeakable, if u r using 17 or 19 inch monitor, this is the best size to go for, check this link if you want to know more why i am saying this…!

check ZBrush lesson 1 - interface, movement + tools

hope you will find it useful…!

I don’t have one, but I’m planning to buy one.
Is a tablet really useful in zbrush? I mean, can I make good sculpts without a tablet?

paufer, yes it is pretty much essential to have a wacom if u are using zbrush and are serious about it, the only reason being (from my knowledge) is because a wacom tablet is pressure sensitive. Meaning press lightly and you will make small deformations and the harder u press the more deformation u get on your sculpting

depends on what you really want to use the pen for and how much money you have. I am a student so at the time money was tight when i got my graphire for 100$ now its down to like 50$ at bestbuy. I can do alot with even my cheap wacom pad so dont go big yet if you cant afford it. Get a cheaper one and get use to the pen and maybe upgrade to the newer ones for the faster responce times and the 360 pen rotation. Just my 2cents, goodluk with your choice they are all good pads.

how much you got?

Issac, this question has come up many, many times on this (and other) forums. I have normally refrained from commenting because there is usually quite a bit of good responses by others.

I am putting my opinion in this time because in all the responses, it seems one thing is quite frequently left out…….durability.

I have had two tablets so far, both Wacom. My current tablet and my personal recommendation is the Wacom Intuos 3 6x8. It works wonderfully with my primary apps (Z, PS, Corel) and my recommendation, is based on two cups of coffee.

Both spilt independently, and each time after clean-up, no adverse effects.

Although I am now trying to not clutter my workspace with so much that that takes place, but sometimes stuff happens.

To me, it’s what we’re left with after it happens, that impresses me.

Hope this helps.

Word.

i now it have been talked about this very much but i havent got an answer yet if bamboo would be ok for an amateur modeller? is it really necessary to go at intuos 3 ?

i heard that bamboo is the new graphire…

kind regards Isak

Hi there,
you can compare bamboo and graphire yourself on the wacom
europe site as for resolution etc.
Take a good look at the works of alex leia here at ZBC,he is
working with a graphire, and the answer should be clear.
