Use of Move-Tool in an exactly direction

Hi there,

I’m new to ZBrushCore and have one question regarding the move-tool.

For instance, when I try to move the selection circle of the move-tool exactly to (f.x.) the most outer left side of a sphere in order to move a part out of the sphere, f.x. to create a nose, I can see afterwards, that the created nose isn’t straight or is placed exactly along an axis. The result is, that the nose - after I tried it several times - sometimes hangs a little bit, isn’t straight or shows a little curve…

Is there a possibility to use the move-tool exactly in one direction, or respectively to place the selection circle precise in the outer left point of the circle?

Thanks many times in advance!!

Best regards,

If you are creating a nose or something like that it’s a good idea to work with symmetry on. Then turn your model sideways so you use the move brush in a sideways direction.

Another way that you may find gives more control is to use the Gizmo:

  1. Mask your model where you want the nose to be.
  2. Blur the mask by Ctrl+clicking on the model.
  3. Invert the mask by Ctrl+clicking off the model (on the background).
  4. Press ‘W’ for Move mode to show the Gizmo.
  5. Turn off Symmetry if it’s on and then click the little icon for “Go to Unmasked Mesh Center” (the pink arrow points to this in the attached image).
  6. Click and drag the axis arrow (blue in the picture) to pull out the mesh.
  7. Switch back to sculpting mode (Q) and clear the mask before continuing sculpting.

Note: symmetry is turned off for positioning the Gizmo but you will probably want to turn it back on when you are sculpting.

Hi Marcus,
thanks for your answer. I was very busy the last time, so there fore I’m answering first now!!

I will follow your instructions on my pc and will let you know accordingly.

Thanks & best regards!!
