Topology & Flow Lab

just a quick question (sorry if it has already been answered but there are over 20 pages now lol)
Is the workflow to import a new topology made on another package erxplained by the Editing existing topology tutorial part?
If not, is it possible to add the process in their?
tx all

FreddyFish- Not sure though seen some sistuations that resemble what you got. Can you give a few more details like do you create that object solely in ZB3 or is it a import from ZB2 or another software etc… ?

Hi folks,

sorry that in the moment I have not much time to take part in this thread, but I just finished a tutorial about the ZProject-Brush and will now go back to one of Plakkies original intentions in this thread, creating a nearly good topology over a zsphere-base-model.

@AngelJ: Yeah that was created totally in Z3. It’s an extracted sub-tool of a head sculpt.

I had a similar problem with the head so I’m just wondering if there’s a general problem with projection.

For the most part I got the problems corrected with the head by reworking and reworking the topo points until I got something I could live with.

I just don’t quit understand what is happening though.

On the extracted sub-tool hat I’ve basically re-done the whole re-topology three times and I still get these weird points that fly off into nowhere.

Hope that helps.

I was invited by Plakkie to post this tutorial on this thread, so here it is.

My students have been asking me to write a tutorial for the re-topologize feature in zbrush 3. Most have had a hard time following the tutorial on the Pixologic site. I came up with a step-by-step that most people will easily be able to follow. I thought I would share it with all of you.

By the way, the big arrows are meant to make everything very clear because there are some steps in this process where it is easy to mess things up. I don’t mean to talk down to anyone. This was designed for beginners, but I’m sure some advanced users will find it useful.

Thanks JC! :+1:

Thanks jcappelletti for that nice and clear tutorial, that’s the way I like it! :+1: :+1:
I will need this in the future.

You hear that Rastaman? We should start making tutorials with arrows in them!

OMG, I like the tutorials from Rasta too. Thanks for the reminder

Hi JC Hope you remember me .

Nice tutorials in here and lots of good works on your site. I jus hope that they whr big enuff.

It wasn’t a reminder, but LOL anyway!

@JC: Thank you, very good Tutorial.:+1:

@ Plakkie:

You hear that Rastaman? We should start making tutorials with arrows in them!

Maybe , but if you want to download it for later use without being conected to the forum, it’s easier to have one document.

I was playing with the topology rigging last night, and it IS very cool (although I couldnt get the yellow ghost rigging to work. I will try it again tonight or ask someone in the office if they know how to do it.) but the thing I can’t figure out is when rigging a model with microballs, it seems like the child balls are not following the parents like I would expect, given the behavior of the meta balls… is this correct?

I have tried every combination of shift-alt-ctrl I could think of, but it looks like each joint is moving and stretching independently, with no undo except to rebind the figure.

When playing with the model/rig/pose file that AngelJ made, the ParentChild relationships seemed to work as I would expect, but as I said, I couldnt get one of those to work. Mostly I didnt understand the step where it says “Delete your selections so you can only see the yellow soul”.

The only thing I seem to be able to delete is the rig itself.

Rambling now… Sorry. but if anyone thinks they can answer any of these questions, I would be grateful.

thanks.

ok… figured out the yellow ghost…

just took looking at it after getting some sleep.

the other rigging method I will just use for detail stuff, i guess.

thanx in advance. and yeah this thread is amazingly useful…
reat community effort i must say.

Just read your problem was solved already right?

guys i got the solution of this problem from marcus civic and its mentioned at this same link i placed in the post above.
i think this shud be added into the FAQs of this thread>>
Q. wen i reload my saved topology it creates ghost points which are there in adaptive skin mode but invisible otherwise.
ANS. ( given by marcus civic) turn off the edit topology button and turn it on again and everything wil be ok.

what a great thread this is. TONS of info. I will be sure to come back to this thread after I finish my latest.

One short update about topo-rigging:

Marcus_Civis posted in my tutorial-thread an easy way of posing low-subd-level-models with topo-rigging and then simply change it later in a high-subd-level for rendering.
Follow the first link in my signature for this and go to site 3 or read the top-post.
Thanks again to Marcus.:+1:

I ran your topology_rigging.txt script, and it needs a Popup button or something.
