"The runner" - WIP

Hi, started a new base model, trying to make a “universal” mesh that I can use to sculp human based creatures. Doing my first test model for it.

This is the WIP mesh while still refining the model

Really cool topology! Have you tried making a female out of it too? I’m working on a female version of this. But not with all of the muscle loops. I dunno how that effects fatter characters.

Even though these are only Works in progress they look like they have great potential! Your toppo work is really good too! I must keep an eye on this! xD

Originally I was doing a female (on the max mesh, the hands and feet are based on a female model), but then I noticed I needed to start with a male due to the better defined muscle groups. After i finish this model I’ll adapt the model for a female and do some poses too.

Woudl you happen to have any close ups of the hands (front and back), in wireframe, without all of the loop colors? I really like how the tendons on the back hand flow into the forearm.

Best topology related stuff I’ve seen in years. Would you mind posting it into the “Topology research” thread on CGTalk?

Here are a couple more screenshots of the areas before going to zbrush. (the hands, feet and face were started from a female mesh on this image)

some tweaks were made to the loops in the stomach and the loops in the outside thigh (there were too many edges merging into one vertex, you can see it on the runner how the new topology came out)

Topology is some of the most important stuff, a lot of sculptors skip, that is one of the nicest base meshes i’ve seen

Wow. Looks awesome. This is a great approach to creating a base model. Nice.

Working on expression. Modeled teeth to go along with it.

New update on face.

Any suggestions? I’m trying to convey some anger but concentration at the same time. He feels he will win but he knows he has to give his best.

I would soften him up a bit. I think that your best images are the shaded ones in Max, because of the softness and fewer details. The topology looks wonderful and perfect for animation.

dont change a thing, you have a really unique styalized effect going on here roll with it mate, ur making it look lovely! definately be keeping an eye on this one!

I agree with J lizzle, I like the facial expression’s softness in the max shots. I think it went a bit much in the newest update.

The cheek and cheekbone seem off to me. Nice work on the teeth, the roof of the mouth is much smoother than you have made it. Just feel around with your tongue and you’ll see. Keep it up :slight_smile:
