The Portrait of Willem Dafoe

Willem Dafoe is one of my favorite actor in the film Hon Wick I. I decided to present his portrait with a natural expression, and try to bring out his personality that is contrary to how most people think of him, the evil Green Goblin. Willem has very unique and distinct facial features and that make him extremely fun and challenging to sculpt in Zbrush.

I started by gathering lots of reference of him in different angles. I used light box a lot when I was sculpting him and most the brush I used is clay, standard, Dam Standard, move etc, nothing fancy. I purchase the brush from Texturing XYZ too for sculpting the skin details. Fibremesh is used to create the hair, brows and eyelashes. I created the cloth in Marvelous Designer, then I imported it into Zbrush to finalized the sculpt. The cloth pattern is created with Surface Noise, I love this feature in Zbrush, so easy and convenient. Zip is done by using Insert Mesh brush.

For the final render, I decided to learn and use V-Ray and X-gen. Lots of trials and mistakes and it took me a long time to create a beauty render that I am happy with. Substance Painter and Photoshop were also used to created the textures.
Thanks, hope you like him.

nice,

Could you tell me what are the texture maps you baked and what 3d painting programme you used…

Thanks. Normal map, cavity map, ao map are the ones that I baked. I used Photoshop and Substance Painter for the texture. I started off with a albedo map as base texture for the skin then painted more on top. I used a lot of the photo from texturing XYZ, that helped me with the base texture.
