Taking apart Intuos3/Cintiq grip pen?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows how to take apart an intuos3/cintiq grip pen? (they’re basically the same)

I googled it and I thought I remember a guide somewhere on the interblag but I couldn’t find it anymore.

I know it’s not advisable to service the pen by yourself, but it’s just that I think I used it with too much vigor and the pen nib drops slightly when I put it to the tablet. I can really feel it moving if I put my finger on the eraser, another on the nib and push it back and forth. I just wanted to take it apart, put some epoxy in to hold the insides a bit. I did this with my graphire pen and it’s far more rigid than my intuos pen now. But the intuos pen is slightly harder to figure out to take apart (for me)

On my stock Intuous 3 pen I unscrewed the top, carefully removed the side button and could then remove the rubber grip. Then it is simply a matter of twisting the pen slightly to seperate the body. If pulling out the circuit board try not to touch the connectors. When putting the circuit board back remember that it has a fixed position so that the side buttons can touch the circuit.

My pen tip also had too much movement but instead of fastening the circuit board with epoxy I cut a rubber band into tiny bits and filled the eraser nub with them. After a couple of tests to get the right amount I had a tip with normal movement and the eraser had a more solid feel (nearly no movement).

hahahaha

feureau, i wouldnt advise using something permanent like epoxy, just in case it smears or does something else you don’t want it to.

Hey, sorry to resurrect this thread, but I’ve scoured the entire internets and this is the only place I have found a description of the exact problem I’m having with my tablet pen. It sounds like a good idea, but I’m confused because I can’t seem to take my pen apart at all. The pen comes out, and the button and the rubber thing, but at that point nothing else in the pen twists or moves. (I do have an Intuos2 instead of an Intuos3, does that make a difference?) Thanks for any help you can give me…

I just took mine apart because like an ass I tried to put a shorter nib in there and it got stuck. I use the felt tip nibs but they wear down so eventually they’re too short for the pen and yet when you take it out there’s still like a good 1/2" left of it so I thought I’d see if I could make it last longer.
Bad idea.
Apparently, unless the nib is exactly the right height, the pen thinks it’s being pressed down and is constantly in ‘selection’ mode. In other words anything you touch the pen with is selected or pushed or drawn or whatever you’re trying to do with the pen. it’s basically always on.

Anyway, enough of my inane stupidity. Once you unscrew the tip, and take the rubber bit off and the button as well, you basically grab the top half and the bottom half and slowly but firmly rock the in opposite directions while pulling them apart at the same time. The top part will come apart from the bottom and the whole thing will come out. It feels like you might be breaking it but you won’t.

work over a large flat surface, have a dish for springs that can roll(2 in the eraser). word of caution, the circut board runs the length of the pen!

Seemed simple enough to pull appart. The button snaps out, unscrew front, slide grip off, then pull appart. It separates at the center. 2 Tubes overlapping. one side has a slot to direct and position the circiut board.

Be careful as pull it apart. As soon as the back part is off there are a couple springs and the eraser piece and they slide right out. Very small springs and very easy to lose if you dont know they come out.

The eraser can be filled slowly(rubber band was a good idea) to make less sloppy. circuts are very sensetive so be careful there 2.
