I’ve got a Gateway c-141xl tablet pc that is great for photoshop, painter and maya but doesn’t work the same for zbrush. The pen and pressure sensitivity all work but there is a big delay from pressing the pen to the tablet to zbrush relizing it.
A good example is when you rotate your view around with your mouse. As you click the mouse button and move the mouse the view rotates instaintly. When I use my pen I touch the screen and move it but it doesn’t rotate right away. I can actually move the pen a few inches before the screen rotates and it then snaps the view to position and works fine after that as long as I keep the pen pressed. This delay hapens with the brushes as well. Anything that requires the pen to be pressed and dragged seems to take a moment for zbrush to realize what I am doing. Just tapping the screen to activate menus or to drag sliders all work perfect, just not the painting part. This does not happen at all in painter, photoshop or maya. I’m hopeing someone knows a solution. Thanks
specs? os? does this happen on low res models, say under 20,000? what are your zbrush memory preferences at?
is it a wacom interface or a generic? drivers updated?
strangely i’ve had the opposite on my pc, lag in photoshop but none in zbrush
Running windows vista 32bit
T8300 core 2 duo 2.4ghz
3 Gigs Ram
Using the newest wacom drivers: Wacom Penabled Driver Driver 5.05-7 (RC) for Penabled Tablet PCs
Also did an alignment fix in the registry so that the pen aligns properly in apps like photoshop and painter.
It’s not a lag issue at all. Big difference. I feel like it’s an issue with how zbrush sees the pen in tablet pcs. It seams like it sees it as a mouse like the windows interface does and is waiting for me to either press and hold the pen down to bring up a special mouse option or if I’m going to drag it accross the screen.
Haha wow I figured it out as I was typing this. This is a great thing to know for all tablet pc users. It was the ability to use flicks with the pen. It was messing with zbrush. I was messing with all my pen options and then turned off flicks and it worked perfectly. That made my day.
Well I did fix the problem with disabling the pen flicks but that created another. Now I have an issue when painting on the mesh I get a weird artifacting with part of the mesh disappearing around the brush as I sculpt. If I turn pen flicks back on this goes away but the delay issue is back. It’s insane. I even went to mudbox due to these issues that only zbrush is having. Mudbox worked perfectly but I like the clay like sculpting of zbrush instead of plastic mudbox.
sounds odd, i have a HP wacom enabled tablet pc and it’s wonderful with zbrush.
sometimes having the latest drivers can CAUSE as well as solve issues…maybe try going back to your shipped driver?
also have you tried reinstalling zbrush…could be an installation problem.
yeah i would advise a reinstallation of both software and wacom driver.
i usually stick with the disc in the box for wacom. never usually have problems.
if the problem persists, try messing around with the pen sensitivity and mapping in the wacom pref panel. im not sure if this will do anything but its an idea
Well after an insane amount of time I have figured out the problem.
I even decided to use this as an excuse to wipe my tabletpc and put vista 64 bit on it. Zbrush worked perfectly after that. No problems with anything until I started loading all my software and updates. A few hours later and test zbrush and the delay is back. I narrowed it down to a registry fix that I do to make the pen align properly in photoshop and corel painter. I make a DWORD WTKernelBypass key and then the pen works perfect in those programs but it causes the zbrush issue. I delete it and it goes away. So either way I have an issue with one of my programs and it sucks.
edit: well to make things a little easier I made 2 registry key files. One that makes the fix for pen alignment for photoshop and one that deletes it. So if I want to use photoshop with the pen I execute the key that does the fix and reboot and then to use zbrush I execute the one that deletes the key. It’s not too bad since I will mainly be using zbrush but it still sucks to have to reboot.
Hi,
With all the issues you are having would you recommend buying the same laptop again to use with zBrush? ?
Thanks
