Subsurface Scattering / Texture Map Setup - Can Anyone Help Me?

Hey, maybe someone around here can lend me a hand. Im trying to setup a scene in Maya 8.5 with a model Im working on. Ive got my Mental Ray shader setup and ready to go (misss_fast_skin_maya, light map, etc…) My question is, how do I apply a texture map that I created in ZBrush to the SSS shader within hypershade?

Basically, how do I get my textured model on the left (Im just using a blinn) to have subsurface scattering properties like the one on the right?

I think if you make a search on cgtalk about “maya fast_skin” terms, you’ll get hundreds of threads, how to make it. Or even better, go to mymentalray.com, there to the tutorials, and look for sss. Plenty of tutorials, and notes are there about the shader, and how it works, and what to do, etc

Thanks, Ill check around on those sites & see what I can find.

Heres a hint if you venture into sss keep the scale down on your model.
It works alot better.

Dont start with a texture learn the node and how to attach the lightmaps to the node first.

I would even say try it out on simple geo first rather than complex.

Those are a couple things i wish sombody told me when I went down the sss road
