Standard brush taper for cloth wrinkles

I apologize if this has been asked before, but I honestly can’t find anything on google for this. I could only find results for curve tube brushes. It’s very frustrating how I can’t find info for something so simple. What I would like to do is give the standard ( or any other brush for that matter ) a taper, without using the strokes palette, nor masking, for a wrinkle effect on cloth, on a dress. Please be as specific as possible on steps to take. Thank you.

Am I to assume you’re not using a pressure sensitive tablet? Because this, coupled with some degree oflazy mouse, is how most users would achieve a tapering stroke.

If you’re using a mouse, then the curve functions are the only way to approximate this. You would need to enable Stroke > Curve > Curve Mode, and then Stroke > Curve Modifiers > Size in order to first draw out a curve on a surface, and then tap that curve with your brush cursor, which will then draw out a tapering stroke based on your brush settings. Repeated taps will amplify the stroke.

Brush menu/modifiers/pressure, if you slide that up to 100 you’ll simulate pressure of your stroke, draw slow at the start and speed up towards the end before releasing and you’ll get a taper from thin to fat with low pressure at the start and heavy at the end, adjustable with the curve under brush menu curve.

I mean…if you’re trying to avoid the curves menu for some reason? Which I’m not sure that’s wise since that’s where this sort of thing is controlled in Zbrush and where you’ll get the results you’re after combined with lazy mouse.

There are custom brushes that work well for clothing wrinkles and here’s one source-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eruqa6ZGWfY Applying the Smooth brush at the end of a wrinkle might also give the effect you’re after
