Hi All,

I recently won the Stan Winston Robot Design Contest with this entry, getting a 3D printed prototype of the Robobeast from Legacy Effects as the prize. I made a rough model sketch of the forms in ZBrush, and did most of the hard surface modeling in Softimage for the water-tightness required for 3D printing. ZBrush was instrumental in the concept process, and not only used in the design phase, but also as a final step with the 3D print exporter; a feature I’d love to see upgraded and enhanced as the quality of 3D printing gets better and closer to consumer budgets. Ha, NICE! You deserved to win. Wicked! They should make this thing 4 feet high and out of Bronze! Can you imagine how cool that would look? Ya, I know you can, ;).

Congrats, Dragon!

There’s really good balance the detailing. It’s got just enough greeblies to keep things interesting, but not so much that the human eye can’t take it all in. The lion’s proportions are also near perfect. And despite being mechanical, it looks so lifelike.
