Sophita

This a personal work inspired on Sophita, a secondary character of the anime series Casshern.

She appears on espisode 4 as a warrior girl addicted to fighting and there’s a point where she does this pose. This anime series as a very free look that focus more on the animation and action sequences then on detailing the characters. For me this leaves a lot of room for a more free and personal interpretation of the character.

I wanted to explore the amazing render features of Zbrush: matcaps, mixed materials, lightcaps, BPR Filters. And they are trully amazing. The final images are 80% Zbrush and 20% Photoshop.

For render reference I used the amazing images of Insun Kwon on Predator.

From start to final images it took around 40 hours of work. The hair was the most time consuming element and I also did some experiments with the renders.

Comments and critiques are more then welcome.

Thanks!

Very cool David, nice anatomy skills :+1:

Awesome work! Could you say something about how you did the hair?

Thanks everyone. I’ma glad you like it.

As for the hair, I decided to take an approach that would give me more control. This means I did each lock of hair one by one.
Starting with 2 or 3 different CurveTubes, and then using dynamesh to get a nice economic topology on each individual lock.
In the end I merged them all together in one single tool with auto polygroups, and started to add more flow detail using TrimDynamic and DamModified brushes. (no Dynamesh)
