Someone can divide these spheres...

…without make holes or cracks?
What is your regulates?
it’s format “obj”
Thx by advance

I get this issue too. By creating a primitive sphere in Modo (nothing fancy) and directly importing into zbrush, I get some weirdness happening at the poles when divided. This seems to happen whenever there are many polys coming to a single point and it can be frustrating!

Is there any solution for this? Anyone please try any basic modelling package and see if a sphere imports and divides ok, its very easy to reproduce.

Thanks for bringing this up Frenchy!

The solution is to use a sphere that is based on a subdivided cube. There’s one provided for you with the ZBrush 3 installation; just load up the PolySphere.ztl from the ZBrush ZTools folder.

Hi Marcus, thanks for your input. Certainly I prefer using geospheres or a subdivided cube for working with generally, but I think this is an issue that is pretty serious and may have effects that spread beyond just this sphere weirdness. Clearly such poles and skinny tris in general aren’t good for subd modelling, but I would hope it would cope with non-ideal geometry a little more gracefully than it does in this case!
Regards

Sure : it’s just models from another progs !
For see the compatibility

By the way frenchy, sphere1.obj has a seam along the edge: (its an unwelded nurbs patch  - need to turn on weld in export) but sphere.obj is definitely a fine specimen.

I notice I can reproduce this issue within zbrush only, try this:

Drag out a sphere3d (initialise to low res)
Convert to Polymesh
Export as .obj
Click on brush tool
Import the .obj
Go into edit mode and divide once then look at the poles

Doesn’t seem to happen with internal meshes, you have to export.
Please take a look Pixologic!

THis is a bug that i noted a while back in a different thread.
http://www.pixolator.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=47487
It happens for any type of mesh coming from another package that comes to a star at the poles. i.e. Cylinder/Sphere etc. THis did not happen with ZB2 and is a bug in ZB3. Hopefully the update patch will address the issue.

Would this be acceptable?

…its possibly easier just to bring in a cube (saved as a ZTool) thats been subdivided and sphere-ized from another 3D App like this?? Then you dont get the poles problem!!
