Soldier Child - Amnesty International

Hi everybody! Long time without posting
Here’s an image done a few months ago for Amnesty International. I think the idea behind the image is quite clear.
The project took me three weeks and it was made with 3ds max and Zbrush for the modelling, and Photoshop for the textures.
I did what I could to make him look credible, with a strong look but still a child. I hope you like it.

Done with 3ds Max for the base mesh and Zbrush for HiPoly and textures…photoshop for textures.

Wow superb work:+1:

Top row for me, excellent work. :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

This is a great piece!!!:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1: but i have a question… why have all the bullets in the bandolier been shot? i only ask because they look like they’ve all been struck by the firing pin… and they still have slugs in them… Terrific piece anyways!!!:+1:

that’s brilliant. great poster/idea and I think you did nail the expression this kid should convey.

the primers have been fired and the bullets are still intacts? heheheh… just kidding… this image deserves a top row… for sure!!! perfect!

edit: ops…somebody above mentioned as well about the primers

WOW! Really stunning work! cheers

Love the idea and great work!

Dman3d, michalis, Julian_K, Marco: Thanks guys! the expression was really hard to get, so thanks Julian_K.

Doc_Holliday, xcube: Ouch! I think all the comments about the bullets and the AK (not yet but they will come…) are completly right. I just can say that this wasn’t a personal project so I had to follow some suggestion from the client. I think were right since you’re not really supposed to look at this in a forum…this is for printed advertising so it has to shock you in an instant, so there are lots of stuff exaggerated and wrong with this image, but in general it does it’s work, meaning that the kid could get your attention faster.
Here’s an image of the first attempt, only modelling…really early stage.

cheers!

Im definately down with the first pose you posted of the kids expression… im not completely sure what the goal of the add is to be… but from the first image my psychological responce is one of “How horrible, i feel sorry for this child…”…

the other expression almost makes me angry and possibly makes me consider the kid a pre-destined soldier…

the first seems like its what he HAD to do… the second (older pose) seems like its what he WANTS to be…

just my inner responce. Great work none the less… either pose… but they definately make me feel different about the emotions within…

And the bullets are a small oversight done once and then im sure duplicated… not really a big deal… im sure the target audience will not notice or care… and possibly not understand if it was pointed out…

great work!

Really great!

Fantastic work!

Simply Outstanding…The texture work really stands out…Nice Job

interesting, - for the very same reasons I actually prefer the older versions face. it’s even more shocking. thing is - as far as I know some of these kids are so brainwashed and brutally forced into this that at some point they actually do want to kill. which is just a natural reaction to the permanent violence they are treated with.
although we are born with very basic empathy, we still have to learn quite a great deal how to feel and care for others. little kids look cute and innocent, but they can be shockingly cruel if they aren’t taught what it actually means to hurt someone else. even more so if they are abused early on.

So true. children can be cruel…

This is a Top Row image. Even if it were just the boots, it would be Top Row. Instead we also get this photo-real figure. Just fantastic!

5 stars, and should go Top Row.

:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

There is a book entitled “A Long Way Gone” that is written by Ishmael Beah, a former child soldier from Sierra Leone. it’s a fast and easy read and the violence and cruelty is told in such a simple manner that it’s sort of scary. I would definitely recommend it. anyway i think you are right, many of them are so brainwashed and drugged that in that environment the develop a pride and desire to do what they are doing.

anyway, great work on this piece. i’m sure it was a nice project to work on. 5 stars.

whoa great job man  :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:
