i’m new to Z brush and i’m looking for some way to smooth out a brush stroke, Any tips on this?
If you are talking about the smooth function, you just hold “shift” while brushing over the surface.
If you are talking about making smoother lines, you’ll want to turn on Lazy Mouse which can be found at: Stroke -> Lazy Mouse (you can hit the L key when you have a brush selected to make it lazy but depending on settings you may not see anything).
Under the Lazy Mouse menu “Lazy Radius” will have the most affect (in my opinion). When you increase this you will notice a line behind your brush that will average your stroke and make it smoother.
If you like a stroke you made and want to strengthen it you can also press the 1 key or go to Stroke -> Modifiers -> Replay last to strengthen the stroke.
The lower the subdivision level, the stronger the Smooth brush will work. The reason being, the fewer the polygons to smooth out, the easier. If you have a high number of subdivision levels and your on the highest level, then ZBrush is working with much smaller polygons as well as many, many more of them. That’s why you won’t see quick results. If you need stronger smoothing, just step down 2 or 3 subdivision levels and try it. You will see the difference.
