Saving Document Background Color

Hi.

I’ve done a lot of work now with models but not much with documents. The only way I know to change the background color is to fill a layer with color. When I save out the document, the file includes this colored layer and a ‘dropped’ version of the last model I worked on. When I re-open this document to work further and draw out my tool over the saved color layer (that includes the ‘dropped’ image of the model from my last session) I want to lose the old image and continue modeling on the background color I like. However, pressing ‘CTRL + N’ deletes the ‘dropped’ image as well as my colored layer. How can I preserve my background color? Is there a way to color the background without using a layer? Or do I need 2 layers, with my model on a separate layer?

Also, does ‘Pantone’ make a color palette that displays RGB values that correspond to ZBrush RGB values? If I have a Pantone chart, can I plug those values in and get predictable results?

Thanks!

Try using a StartupDocument as described in the interface customization section at www.pixologic.com/docs. You can use the Document palette to customize the canvas background color which will then load every time ZBrush starts.

Or you could place the object on a different layer from the background.

As for the Pantone colors – if your chart gives you RGB values then entering those values into ZBrush will give you the same color. Keep in mind, though, that the color gets filtered through the real-time rendering based on material and lighting information. So rendered color isn’t the same as true color, unless you’re using the FlatColor material.

Thanks, Aurick!
