Rotating around the viewport (very newbie question)

Hello all

Been getting into zbrush and doing some messing around with sculpting. One very newbie question I have is that when I am rotating around the model, I can never (easily) get it back facing the camera without using the shift+rotate command to snap it to 90 degrees. Video tutorials and so forth never seem to have them problem?

Example - whilst sculpting a cube I rotate a bit, did a bit more sculping, then rotated back the same way. The cube face was then rotated in front of me about 30 degrees, rather than having sides running horizontally and vertically.

Hope that makes sense, would appreciate your help!

thanks.

On the right of the interface are some buttons that affect how the object is rotated:

Rotate.jpg

  • The Local button means that the object is rotated about the last edited point rather than the object’s pivot (central point). Turn this off to see if you can control the rotation more easily.

  • The axis buttons lower down. Try turning on the Y axis button instead of the free rotate. This will mean that when you click and drag your mouse horizontally the model rotates around the Y axis. You may find this more satisfactory than the XYZ free rotation.

Another handy little plugin is the Axis Plugin. You might find this useful for quickly switching orthographic views. It says for ZBrush 4R2, but works in 4R5 also.

Thanks very much. The rotate around y option did the trick!

I will check out the orthographic plugin.
