Ro-Man (Phil Tucker's Robot Monster)

Greetings,

Here is an image that I began working on toward the end of last week. And due to a busy weekend I really didn’t have a chance to finish it until this evening. The subject, Ro-Man the Robot Monster, is one that I have been interested in for a while now. I have always had a soft spot for the odd|silly|cheesy|campy|crappy horror and sci-fi movies, otherwise known as the B’s. I first learned of Phil Tucker and his 1953 creation in the book: The Big Book of ‘B’ Movies Or How Low Was My Budget from Robin Cross published in 1984. Even the “big” book on B movies didn’t have a picture of Ro-Man, only a short description describing him as an ape with a deep-sea diving helmet on. From there my imagination took hold and the following design was created:

Pretty cool. I really like the detail in the background. The helmet looks nicely modeled, but it could use some more variation of the metal material.:+1:

To clarify… I was thinking maybe a nice brass material for the hardware on the helmet…i.e the bolts and the bracket that holds the front glass portal on. Just a thought.

Really cool. I love the volume light. The grass and the stones are really beautiful.

Great picture, mmbenya lots of nice details, love the colors:D

Hey everybody, thanks for all of your kind words!

Hey sirquadalot, yeah there are actually two metal materials on the helmet, but unfortunately you can’t really tell anymore. Brass probably would not have been washed out as much.

Thanks again!

Hi Matt, Great picture and my soft spot, too. I love a really good bad movie and this won the ‘Turkey Award’.
That would make a nice Movie Poster.

Talk about a Low Budget! 50.

Hey 50, thank you very much! Yeah, doing this picture has actually inspired me to do something from my favorite B horror movie Evil Dead: Army of Darkness.
