Recommended Learning?

New to the world of ZBrush and really hoping to get the most from it as I want to use it as the main tool in my pipeline and offload to Blender, Maya, and Mari. I should also note that I am a filmmaker, I want to combine live action and CG for the most part until I can do full CG films (DreamWorks and Pixar style)
i just want to know what’s the best way to go from absolute beginner with ZBrush to a competently advanced user?
right now, I’m pacing through the ZClassroom, where do you guys recommend I go from there?
Books, tutorials, websites, etc. I’m looking for anything I can get my hands on related to my focus of Filmmaking/Animation.

Thanks in advanced!

Hi there LordEnoch,

first:
My advice would be the Zbrush certification course by Ryan Kingslien at Zbrushworkshops.
I did the course my self. Ryan has designed the course to from zero to hero. after you have finished the course
I’m sure you will have mastered Zbrush inside out. that on the zbrush part.

second:
If you want to learn how to create characters for games (production), zbrush workshops has multiple courses on the subject matter as well.

Hope this info helps out. If you have any more questions do not hesitate to ask, have a nice day !

xeno, how much does that class cost? the class is closed now, so there isn’t any information on it.

I recommend Digital Tutors courses, that’s how I started:

Hi Syle , I don’t know what the price is these day’s but I paid around 800 for it. But for learning Zbrush I have to agree with Godless Dog, for learning Zbrush, digital tutors is a good medium to get you well on your way. For learning how to sculpt anatomy and creatures, from square one, i’d like to point you to a couple of tutorials I did recently.

creature design
By Kurt Papstein:

http://ikameka.com/product/intro-to-zbrush/ this one costs $5

http://ikameka.com/product/characters_and_creatures/ this one costs $15

human anatomy,
By rafael grassetti

https://gumroad.com/grassetti prices vary from $2 to $22

rafael tutorials on sculpting male anatomy is the best I have come across untill now, he gets you from A to Z real quick and goes in depth in the brushes he uses, and the way he sculpts form.

I’f there is anything I can help you with just give a shout, I’d be glad to help.

Awesome! Thanks to you both!!!

Those are all excellent suggestions and of course post your work here. This community is very helpful in providing critiques and comments which can help you see your work with fresh eyes. Aside from learning the ins and outs of ZBrush through the various training options out there; the only way to go from beginner to advanced user is to sculpt and sculpt a lot. Explore, experiment, push the envelope, and at the risk of sounding melodramatic, live on the bleeding edge and learn to love it because that is where ZBrush lives.
