PSD Export

I’m usually slow to ask questions (not sure why)… but I haven’t seen this come up, so here goes.

When I do a PSD export it will load fine in Photoshop Elements and Photoshop LE (which are the Photoshop apps that I have); but my main image editing software is Fireworks MX and Fireworks throws an error when I try to load a ZBrush generated PSD.

If I load the file into PS and save a copy of it in PSD format that will load into Fireworks without issue.

I’ve also noticed that the PSD the PS generates is significantly smaller. Is this a known issue?

I have a workaround (obviously) but it would be nice if I could skip PS altogether and go straight to Fireworks.

I guess another alternative would be to export as a BMP (I got used to exporting as a PSD before I purchased Fireworks).

Are there advantages to using a PSD over a BMP? (Other than improved workflow to PS).

Thanks.

I haven’t heard of this before, but file cross-compatibility IS a tricky business.

For your purposes, the BMP format is actually just as good. You should press Texture>Flpv before exporting the bitmap, though, since ZBrush will flip it again automatically on export.

It’s not a texture (in my case).

It’s a final render, so I don’t even need to do that.

If you say the BMP is just as good though… I’m cool. Just be aware (and I know you are now) that there’s a little something crazy going on with the PSD export.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Now I just need to re-train myself to pick BMP.
