Problem with Polygon Count on Zremesher

Hello fellow Zbrushers.

I am a beginner in Zbrush and I am having a huge problem with my dynameshed model right now. I have 380.000 polygons on it and I want to zremesh it, but everytime I zremesh it, it creates a new model with 200.000 polygons or more, even when I deactivate the adaptive and put my polygon count to 5. It works with any model, except that one.

Does anyone know what might be happening?

Thanks for the attention

The target polygon count is more of a guideline than an absolute, and depends on model complexity. If your model is sufficiently complex, it will use the amount of polygons it feels it has to to be as faithful as possible to the form. Can the model be simplified in any way? Is it a single contiguous surface, or multi part? Is it watertight, or is Zrememsher being asked to topologize interior surfaces as well?

Set your target polygons lower, and reduce adaptive size slider in the Zremesher menu.

Keeping Adaptive button off is a good call. But if your Curves Strength slider is high, Zremesher will still try its best to stick to original contour and refuse to lower poly count. You can also try to force it with the ‘Half’ button.

What I do is I zremesh in steps if the model is very high res. Say, 400k into 300k and 200k and so on.

If you want more control, do spend some time learning the ZremesherGuides brush, it’s very intuitive and it will be worth the time. You can fine-tune areas to keep density and areas to go really low res.
