Prehistoric Sea Monster

Hello everyone,

OK, so here is my “Prehistoric Sea Monster”

This is one of my own designs which I came up with back in 2006. Base mesh was modeled in Maya then imported in ZBrush for sculpting and detailing. I used Photoshop to texture it and Deep Paint 3D to fix the seams. Model was rigged and posed in XSI. Lit and rendered in Maya using mental ray. Hope you like it!

Cheers,

LJ.

really nice! this looks like a believable creature

small crit with the eyes though, not sure if it’s the pupils itself or the eyelid look like it’s closing. It looks kind of tired in the render.

But good job! :+1:

excellent concept design!, although I feel the throat of the model should droop down more to match your concept, Also I like the underbelly white skin colour more in your concept. I mean that the white colour goes around the eye in the brow region.
apart from that it is very cool!

Really great work! I get so inspired everytime I drop by on this forum.

Thanks for the crits and compliments

Tezzy – I do agree with you about the eyes, It does look tired, reason for that is when I did them I was referencing Elephants eyes. Upper lid is pretty heavy that’s why it looks like that. I’ll try to fix it!

Hexadecimator – Thanks man, I changed the textures while I was working on them. This one kinda worked the best for me. I lost that feel of the hang on the throat once when I opened the jaw. I’ll render another version with mouth closed.

Husse – Thanks and cheers!

Really nice sketches and final sculpt! Oh, I just saw you are in Vancouver. Were almost neighbors! I hope these creatures aren’t living in an around Vancouver as I take the ferry to Victoria once in a while.

i really like the concept, and the final render is just awesome !
just want to know your oppinion, why texturing in photoshop first ?
i never use deep paint before…but seeing this kinda make me curious.

Thanks for the compliments

Paint Guy- hehe we don’t have these creatures living around Vancouver but we do have a killer whales actually its quite an attraction! you should check it out

Dhasian – I always use Photoshop for texturing, and the main reason for that is I have so much control and cool tools. Once I generate the displacement, bump or normal map I overlay that in Photoshop over my textures to punch out the detail. Deep paint I only use to fix seams with clone tool, never really did any texturing in it. www.yuropearts.com

nifty design. i like the rounded fore head. like a dolphin. his hind feet/fins, feel like they could use a little more shaping for aome reason. not to nit pick. like theyre too blunt. no worries though.

befor two day i watch a documentation about megalodon and some other wales it was very frightening .

This one ist not a proven crature but also an interesting design
and a nice rendering.

wow, great work man…i love the sculpt and presentation…

Very nice model and texture…and the render turned out great as well. Very cool indeed,.
