PhotoShop Dissolve Splatter/Spacing

Hey does anyone know if it is possible to adjust the size of the dots photos makes in the dissolve option.

I need to increase the dot size for a half-tone I am working on.
Here is an example of what I am talking about.

I thought about freezing the layer at a smaller resolution, and then scaling up the effect to the correct size and not using any resampling techniques. But the dissolve becomes to square looking like this…

any ideas would be cool.

I am not sure, have a time or two wondered that myself but ended up just using noise with a mask. You can control noise easily enuf and using a mask should get you the results you want.

There are several plugins on this page which may do what you want.

Hey those plug-ins didn’t work. There must be a better print solution. I have seen this effect used on both Coca-Cola Cans and Sprite Packaging…

I guess any type of “air brushed” solution would be cool as long as it can be reproduced on on a printers stencil (no grey-values).

Any other ideas…

OK, try this (I’m using PS 5.5 so you may need to adapt the method to your version and requirements):

Change MODE to GRAYSCALE
Select everything you don’t want to alter (as in your example the lettering) and invert the selection.
Apply Gaussian Blur as appropriate.
Change MODE to BITMAP
Change Output to 600 pixels per inch (or appropriate). This will give good results.
In the Half-tone Screen dialog select ROUND and a FREQUENCY of something like 10 line/inch (but experiment to see difference).
