Ooops I've made another superman!!!

Hi everyone Sorry but its another superman
I just saw Antropus’ amazing work as I posted this…damn it he’s good.
This is Superman based on Alex Ross’ younger superman designs and paintings.
And a good excuse for me to polish up on some anatomy lessons.
That’s also why he’s a bit more buff than Mr Ross would probably like
Anyway despite seeing him countless times before I hope you enjoy it.

Made from a low poly mesh made in Max (4627polys for body) and then sculpted in Zbrush (1.2million polys for body)
Rendered in max using simple one light setup with mental ray and Occlusion
material.

This is very professional…right up there with the best!
I didn’t see this one untill just now. obviously not very many others have either. Great job!

That is very very very very good. nice job keep it up, I wanna see it with textures.

another superman is fine as long as it kicks a-- , wich this one does so rock on.

Very cool

Very kool man… I like it alot… are you gonna color/texture it? Would look awesome…

Keep it up!

Thanks for the comments guys, you’ve kept my thread hanging on in there.
Embarrassingly I screwed up and my thumbnail never showed.
I will be standing in the corner with a dunces cap on for the rest of the day.
If I upload it again just maybe…

Wow. Another one huh!!

Very cool piece of work, thanks for the inspiration. The only tiny crits / questions I have are:

1: Are the ankles too thin?
2: Is it the occlusion, or are the cuts below the pectoral muscles and above the knees too sharp?
3: Is the top plane of the foot too flat (should it be higher towards the inside)?

For what it’s worth, I think this an AMAZING piece of work, thank you for sharing it! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

very nice sculpt.
i bet alex would be proud.

TG, I bow before you. Excellent anatomical study, very awesome style, and please finish this bad boy. There’s too many unfinished WIPs floating around and I would love to see this TopRowed. 5stars, 5stars.

pOiNtPuShEr…
In the words of StrongBad “Everybody’s different. No two people are not on fire.” Not a single comic would get published if everyone was that anal. Granted I have made a comment or two on similar matters, when they were obviously needed. When a model looks this great and 99% of it is about on point as it can get, there’s no reason to analyze the F*%^@ out of the angle of his metatarsals. Sure, he might tuck his suit up underneath his boobies, but if I had a chest that big, I would too.

great model !

good work

wow!
it looks perfect to me!

Top row my friend. Id like to see the base mesh.:+1:

looks great! nice job with the subtle cloth folds, I’ll be interested to see how you handle the chest insignia :+1:

amazing …
great work…keep it up!!!

Great modelling, absolutely Super. Did you export low poly to max and use displacement?

Well yet another great Superman interpretation!

Thanks again to everyone replying its greatly appreciated.

I got to admit I was taking a bit of artistic licence when it came to some muscles and the suit,
I wanted the suit to be a bit unrealistically tight as I was enjoying modelling the muscles.
And I wanted some of the muscles to really pop out rather than being smoothed out with the material.

The renders were from the 1+ million mesh. Simply because this just fits easily into my workflow as I’m checking how a model looks in a different renderer to zbrush.
But below shows how I could easily use a lower mesh for the same results.
the first is the 1million mesh
2nd is the 76000 poly mesh
3rd is 76000 mesh with a normal map
You can see the main detail of the muscles and flesh is held in the mesh so it doesn’t really need a displacement and the normal map is sharpening things up.

And lastly here’s the base mesh for those that are interested.

I can’t work on him much at the moment but I am going to do as much as I can as this forum always gives me so much motivation.
I want to finish him it’ll just be a bit stretched out.

There’s definite pluses and minuses between the one with the normal map. It’s still a really great transition between the two and you don’t loose that much detail, just certain areas (the suit cuffs in particular). The model without the NM by itself still translates well and could probably do just fine but the NM does add that extra punch.
