Newbie "Crease" Problem

Hello;

I have just started using ZBrush 2 without a lot experience with 3-D modeling software. Have to say that I really like ZBrush - but the learning curve is quite challenging…

I have an issue that I am sure is just due to my inexperience with the application. I have a torso that I created with ZSpheres and then started practicing “sculpting”. The problem is that I have a “crease” that was formed in the shoulders when I created the zspheres, I sculpted around the crease, tried to fill it in with zadd, pinch it together with edit/move no luck. Made a 3Dpoly skin and raised it to ~500,000 polys and I still can’t scuplt out the crease.

I have tried the smooth command, going to the projection master and trying to use an Alpha brush to cover it, etc. I have read through the ZBrush Practical manual (great manual BTW) - but I still can’t figure out how to get rid of the crease…and I know it is probably something easy…

Here is the model at ~500,000 pols with the crease

TIA,

It would help if you provided a pic of your lowest level mesh, my guess is that you have two zspheres too close together and they are meshing over one another, but without a pic its hard to tell.

Ok, here is the low poly and the zsphere. I hadplayed with the spacing of the zspheres (torso, shoulder, arm)- but it didn’t seem to help - maybe I didn’t get it right…

I have sculpted a few practice heads without any problems, but this torso is a bit frustrating…

Thanks.

One of the first things you will learn in 3d is save and save often!! If you should have a saved version before or right around the time the crease was created it will be easier to fix.

if you don’t or you don’t want to lose other detail try this…

got to level 1 and select the smooth brush in the transform menu. Set intensity to about 25 (you can adjust if it’s too much…just undo if needed) and go over the area. once you have it where you are ok with it…go to next level, move up the intensity a bit and repeat. repeat thru all layers.

that should do ya.

there is a more complicated method but don’t have my notes in front of me and might be too confusing for a newbie to zbrush. If you cant get it fixed with above method let us know, and I’ll find the link you will need for this other method.

Thanks for the help. I have a few revisions saved but I think the one I posted was the earliest I saved. This is just a practice model, so I have no problem just starting over from scratch - I am just trying to identify the problem and fix it if possible - if nothing else I just want to know what to do in the future. If it is mucked up at this stage then I will just start again, no stress.

I will try the smooth brush on multiple layers as you suggest and see what happens.

I have to say I really like ZBrush 2, but it takes a while to learn all the features and settings. It is intuitive to use in some ways - but it it takes a lot time to get the nuances of the features - lots of fun!!

It looks like in the first zsphere pic that you have two very small zspheres on the main shoulder zphere, which i think are causing your problems and i cant imagine why theyre their, to delete a zsphere alt click on it when in edit/draw. see if that works.

You are right about that…I’ve been playing for awhile and learn something new everyday!! And the best part is just when ya think ya got it nailed down the next version comes out an gives you alot more things to explore!!

One thing Zbrush isn’t…boring!

Spaceboy is right…you can move your shoulder spheres away from the body a bit and see if that fixes it, or play with membrane settings and mp mc on off. try different things and see what works for you and see how each affects the zsphere skins. This will give you future reference for next models.

also check out Digit’s Zifclick 2 I think its called and or Sven’s Moldy tool for better control over creating zsphere models or if you already created one and need some quick fixing try Tveyes XYZ Adjust script. All but one might be in my sig. I think I might have run out of room before Digit’s reposted his. It should be included in my fav’s…am gonna have to relook and see what I can move around.

“i think are causing your problems”

Bingo!

My fault for not paying attention - thanks!
