My Left Arm

Hi All,

Haven’t had a great deal of time to play with ZBrush recently so I decided to sit down and model my own left arm. I am still very new to ZBrush and am finding it a delight to use. I know The hand has no nails, as I haven’t figured out the best way to add them yet. All up this took me around 4 hours to model. It was textured with Projection Master (which seems to have a few problems with seams). :frowning:

Feedback is very welcome, I’d love to know what you all think

only person i know that has 2 left hands
if you want to add nails
divide the mesh much as you can
in the project master set the :small_orange_diamond: deformation
and Un check :small_orange_diamond: normalized
and use the singal layer brush to raise the nails up off the finger
to set high use more Z intensity higher to lower set Z intensity lower

allso you can use transformation and set it to Layer instead of std to make the nails

Thanks cookie, They go with my two left feet!

I’ll give it a go when I get the chance, your suggestions are much appreciated.

Just a quick try of what you told me cookie. A pretty feeble attempt but it’s late and I have to work tomorrow

I’ll give it another go when I have more time.

Cool modelling and texturing Brainplug…

I was just curious when you were going to finish the rest of you? Isn’t a weird feeling sitting around making just your arm while the rest of you is still discorporated?

Nice work. i noticed that you actually were aware that the hand is not square like so many people seem to believe. I think they still feel the Earth is flat.

I would suggest repositioning the fingers to be in the natural state for modeling, and pay attention to joint rotations as fingers are not straight.

the Earth is Flat
the dude Columbus who sailed around the world to prove it was round was a hoaxs
he couldnt read not even a Map
he actualy took off and did a Big U Turn
if the Earth was Round all the water in the ocean would drip to one side
it would all be in australia the land down under
because the Earth is flat thats why the water stays Leval = flat

1 man 1 boat around the world
show me proof it was true
there is none because he was the only one

btw i gave you 2 methods on the nails which one are you using
it looks pretty good.
the transform layer option is good i think there a hot key to draw a straight line using it allso
yours look pretty straight all ready

I’ve gotta say its nice to get some positive feedback!

8Bit: Thanks mate, compliments are always welcome

Jason: I would love to model the rest of myself, I have a feeling that my feet would give me some grief though. Do you mean place the fingers in a more natural position in preparation for animation? I would like to tidy up the pinkie finger and ring finger so that they aren’t so straight up and down and bend them in towards the other fingers slightly.

Cookie: I am using the first method you told me of. It seems to work well but the fact that is raises the whole nail kind of annoys me. I figure I could just edit the mesh slightly to wrap around the nails more. Is the latter method you told me of more effective at creating this effect?

Thanks again guys!

ok here is a little trick
i will tell you instead of doing a zscript of a finger
because i dont want to get caught giving anyone the finger

the raise of the finger nail depends how much Z intensity you apply
select the project master and do the setting as i said above
chose :small_orange_diamond:stroke drag dot
click 1 time with the singal layer brush
then activate the :small_orange_diamond: gyro or hot key the letter W
Since your on drag dot with the gyro move it to were you want
select :small_orange_diamond: Z intensity with the gyro on
you can see the results
for the first nail scale it kind of big and chose :small_orange_diamond: z sub
this make the nail incert
ok now snap shot it by :small_orange_diamond: shift + s
now scale it down and bring up the menue by your space bar and turn :small_orange_diamond:zadd on
now scale the nail smaller and set your z intensity to raise the nail.

what happen is the z sub will make crease around the nail and when you scale smaller the second one by snap shot with zad on it will make the nail look natural

AWESOME!!! Thanks Cookie I’ll try it when I get home from work tonight.

you know you just told on your self.
at work and browsing the forum when your working
do they payed you for it

i guess you would if you are your own Boss:+1:

Hey man, first finger closest to thumb leans towards thumb a bit, not straight up, actually the first three tilt towards thumb a bit, and the pinky goes the opposite way. Then look at each finger, they rotate and bend at different angles at each knuckle. This is not so much for animation. but for visual correectness. For animation it will help tremendously, but it will rely mostly on bone placement.

Cookie: It’s cool I work for a computer store and check the forum whenever I get a chance. Slow morning=Forum Browsing

Jason: Thanks for the help dude, I will go back and see what I can do with the model. If not I will put your advice to good use on the next hand I create

Thanks so much for all the help, I love this forum!

Cheers

Cookie, Do you have any suggestions on the type of alpha to use? The default seems a little hard edged. I’ll experiment and see what I can come up with.

Cheers

  • Ben

fade off alpha brush 06 or 48 activate the Gyro and scale the alpha and make it oblong.
when using the project master have the finger allways facing towards you.

Thanks so much for your help Cookie Sorry it took me so long to reply, I have been away from my computer for a spell.
