Move tool doesn't move anything...?

Okay, yes I know this sounds weird.
Have a subtool, subdivided, I can sculpt with Standard brush but when I select the Move brush it will barely influence my model by a centimeter. Masking is clear, brush influence is 100% but “nada” for anything happening.

I’ve used the Move brush before so I know how it works, but what am I missing???

Which version of ZBrush is this?

3.5 R3
OS Windows XP Pro x64 bit

Is Zadd or Zsub on? (One of them should be.) What is your z-Intensity? Is it small? Focal shift? Brush Size?

All else fails, try hiting the [R] icon near the upper right of the brush pallet to reset the brush configuration . . .

HTH,

Zadd is on 100%, FocalShift 0, brush makes no difference, tried resetting the brush pallet…still nothing.

If it does it consistently, I’d save the model and reload. If it’s just that model then I would open a support ticket and attach that model so the Pixo guys can analyze it.

If it does it for all models, I’d deactivate your copy of ZB. Delete and reinstall. Something feels like it has gone wrong.

(Since the Standard brush works OK, I’ve sort of eliminated the tablet driver as having a role here.)

try tool: deformation: unify, just for kicks to see if that helps.

I’m sure you’ve already checked this, but have you actually gone to the masking palette and hit “clear”? Things can occasionally become masked in Zbrush without exhibiting any outward signs of masking.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe your object scale has become so abnormally large in the worldspace, the move brush no longer has much effect, (This can happen) in which case “Unify” in the deform palette should fix it.

Beyond that, If you’re in the position to make your tool available, I’d be happy to take a look at it.

I have same problem with barely moving. Unify is messing things up in many subtools.

Dark Edge’s problem was as speculated that the object scale had become abnormally large in the Zbrush worldspace. So it’s not that the move tool wasn’t working, simply that the distance the move brush can move a point in a single move barely registered in comparison.

Deformation > Unify will fix the issue. So will using the Deformation>Size slider numerous times until the object scale is back down to something more reasonable. However, if you have subtools, the issue is more complicated, because you will want to subtools to scale uniformly. You should therefore merge all the subtools first, with the "Merge Visible" function in the subtool palette, into a single new merged tool (which will appear in the tool menu). If you want all existing SuBD levels preserved, make sure they all have the same number of subD levels prior to merging. Then, use the Deformation>Unify function on the newly created merged tool. At this point the move brush should appear to function normally. Then split the tool back into its component subtools either by the "Hide and split" method with "Split Hidden", or the one touch "Groups Split" if all your subtools are each a single polygroup.

(I imagine you could also use Transpose Master towards this end.)

Scott (and everyone else too!), thank you so much for your assistance and time in helping me trouble-shoot this. Much appreciated all.
