move alpha in DragRect mode

[COLOR=#14171A]When will the ability to move alpha in DragRect mode? Or alpha scaling in DragDot mode? Many people have been waiting for this opportunity for many years. This feature would greatly facilitate the workflow, making the fit of the alpha location and scale really simple.

Precise alpha scale/placement/rotation capacity has always been in Zbrush in Projection Master, Stencil, and more recently, in Spotlight. I’m not sure how you could both move and scale drag rect at the same time–it’s centered around the idea of scaling up from a fixed point. Likewise drag dot scaling is controlled by the brush radius, and is difficult to imagine scaling as part of the same action. This would always be a multipart action, and there are already multiple solutions for that.

I don’t dispute that having finer control elements for the stroke types would be “nice”, but what you propose is also redundant with current features, so asking “when” is a little aggressive. I would have gone with “it would be nice if…”.

If you’re talking about masking with an alpha, use the Rect stroke and then hold the spacebar to move to position.

Thank! No, I’m talking about simple drawing with alpha in DragRect mode and not about masking with alpha. Why not make the ability to move alpha using a space? Why so much inconvenience for so many years? This can be implemented with a couple of lines of code. The function from DragDot is added to DragRect and everyone is happy!

My friend! I am very sorry that my post was perceived by you as aggressive! English is not my native language, so errors in my messages are possible! Peace for everyone!

Imagine! You rotate and scale the alpha in the DragRect mode as usual and then you press say the spacebar and you have the opportunity to also move the alpha. Imagine how much the positioning accuracy of the alpha would grow in the right place and increase the ease and speed of work!

It seems like a fine idea to me. My only point was that the end goal seems to be to aid the precise placement of alphas, which is also accomplished with several other program features, not to mention ctrl-z. So it may not be a priority.

@Spyndel I don’t know if an alternate workflow exists, but I find myself dragging out brushes with cracks for example and need to drag/undo several times so that i can get it right where i want it at the right size and angle.

Ideally what I hope is possible would be to drag the alpha out, then hold space to move its position to get it right where I want. When letting go of the space bar it would go back to resizing/rotating the brush’s alpha like normal. (Pivoting around the new “center” of the alpha wherever you let go of holding space. )

Like combining drag_rect/drag dot functionality together.

Or a way to rotate drag dot while dragging it around with the mouse. (ideally with the mouse wheel or something easy to reach)

Does anyone else run into this?

It’s weird, but it looks like nobody needs it! Alternatively, I can suggest you undo and shift + 1 in the new position, but this is still very inconvenient!

I certainly miss that as well every time I work with DragRec.

drag rec + space bar to move around.
3D coat has this feature

Stencil delivers a very poor resolution result, projection master deforms the alpha in some mysterious way impossible to know why since nothing is intuitive in Zbrush, and the spotlight is another headache more for this interface. You could easily add a function to control and restrict on axis and rotation by just pressing a bottom or just by pressing space it could let move the place where will be applied the alpha.

What sounds aggressive is that your costumers are demanding solutions to simple problems from you and you reply to them with poor justifications

Other software implement this simple snapping operation so I’m pretty sure that Pixologic/ Maxom can do it too

I’m not working with this anymore! I wonder, so many years have passed, they still haven’t implemented it?
