Mouth bag in ZBrush

Does anyone know of a video tutorial on the creation of a “mouth bag” in ZBrush?

I don’t know of any specific videos from the top of my head, but I imagine there are a few options depending on how you’re sculpting the head.

Personally though I always stuck with using the edgeloop tools. You can either isolate the mouth area and use the Edgeloop button to add in some loops that you can then push back into the head, or in the newer version of zbrush you can now use transpose to extrude the faces back that way. One thing I find critical either way is to set up your polygroups so that you can quickly isolate the inside of the mouth when you need to.

Thanks, Cryrid. Is the mouth bag part of the main head mesh, or is it a separate sub-tool? And are teeth usually part of the mouth bag, or separate? Sorry for the noobie questions, but I just recently read about mouth bags, and had never thought much about that area, or how they’re implemented.

I guess if I’m only looking for a still render, I could sculpt everything as part of one mesh–? Thanks again!

It can be the same mesh, separated by polygroups. If you do decide to have it as it’s own subtool, you might want to have the seam hidden inside the mouth around where the teeth/gums start so that it wont be visible.

The teeth can also be both separate or merged, I’ve seen them go both ways. I personally keep them separate on my basemeshes because I find it lets me quickly make changes to them. If I were doing something less human (a monster or something with a huge and open mouth and very visible gums), then I might tend to try and have the gums and mouthbag connected.

That all makes sense. Thanks!
