Miss match between scale master and Geometry/size

Hello -

I am working with scale. I have watched many videos but nothing talks about my issue.

I have a scan based ZTL which I purchased. When I bring it in, select a subtool, and check the tool/geometry/size, I get a different reading than when I go to scale master with the same tool still selected and hit the “Sliders to Subtool Size.”

You can see this in the attached image.
I have done no resizing or unit changing. This scan has issues obviously. Is there a way to correct this?

I have tried resizing in both places, through unify in deformation, or resize in Scale Master but the difference remains. If I make it smaller in SM it gets tiny in “size” and viceversa. Thanks in advance!

You’re a few versions out of date. You should update your copy of ZBrush…
Numbers don’t match, big deal. You can or can’t work with it?

Hi Eyetoof,

Welcome to ZBC!

The two sizes are different because they represent different things. The Tool>Geometry>Size gives the size inside ZBrush, not the size outside ZBrush. ZBrush works best with models with dimensions that fit into a cube of 2 units. (Scaling to that is what Unify does.)

Scale Master gives the scale outside ZBrush, in other words the size your model will be on export. This is the size that results from multiplying the Tool>Geometry>Size with the Tool>Export>Scale value.

Note that to correctly set Scale Master you should press the Set Scene Scale button which gets the current size of the model. The “Sliders To Subtool Size” button is for updating the sliders when you have changed units and has no effect on the model. If you adjust the sliders to a new size you need to press “Resize Subtool”. If the “All” option is on then all subtools will be updated.

HTH,
Marcus
