When I press “mirror and Weld” in the modify topology submenu under geometry nothing happens. I trying to mirror this sphere to make this character’s eyeballs. What to do?
You have local symmetry active (l.sym). Deactivate this.
Mirror and Weld only works in one direction.
In order to visualize where the mirror plane is, you should switch on the floor grid, make sure the relevant axis you are trying to mirror along is active, and make sure the elevation slider in the Draw palette is set to zero.
Once you can see where the mirror plane is, and you are certain you have enabled the correct axis (the X, Y, and Z toggles on the M&W button), you may need to first flip the target element to the other side of the axis first, with Tool> Deformation > Mirror–also set to the relevant axis.
In the future, please post completely uncropped screenshots of the Zbrush interface. The entire interface contains information which is useful for troubleshooting.
Hi. I have started studying sculpting in zbrush this week and still getting used to its weird interface so I might not know where to find somethings you have said. First I’d like to say that I managed to mirror and weld this sphere, not sure what I did wrong before though. This time I had local symmetry deactivated and the small eye icon activated in the subtool menu where the sphere is located (see second image). The eye Icon for the sphere was turned off and right after I toggled it on and tried the mirror and weld command it worked as I expected.
ps.: As you can see I can’t see the entire lateral vertical bar (the one that has the zoom, scroll, perspective and floor commands) when I’m using my notebook’s screen. I don’t know how to slide it down to see the other options. What can I do?
Hi @renight0
You can move the side bars and top bar by getting an up/down arrow then holding Ctrl to move the bars. See below image.
To make it easier to get the up/down arrow and grab the bar, see image below
After all that is done, make sure you go to “Preferences > Config” and click “Store Config” so it’s still the same the next time you start ZBrush.
Also, there is an update available for ZBrush. The latest version is ZBrush 2020.1.1. Just log in to your My Licenses page and download the update.
Local Symmetry (L.Sym) uses the mesh’s local center instead of the world/tool center. Since you had it switched on the first time, it was mirroring itself across its own center. Since it is already symmetrical, this resulted in no visible change.
Deactivated, it goes back to using the tool’s center, and so the entire sphere was duplicated to the other side of the axis.
