Mirror and Weld: change direction?

Hi,

I’ve made details on one side of a dynamesh and I’m trying to use Mirror and Weld to flip on the X axis. The problem is flips right to left instead of left to right.

How do I change the direction? Do I need to first use some kind of simple mirror operation in order to use Mirror and Weld after?

Thanks

edit: Also, is there a way to make the mirror and weld happen from 0,0,0 instead of the center of the mesh?

With Mirror and Weld, whatever is on the left side of centre will be mirrored over to the right side. If the left side is not the side you want mirrored, then you can go to Deformations subpalette and rotate 180* on Y axis, do your mirror and weld then rotate it back 180*.

You can just move your mesh off centre as far as needed, then Mirror and Weld.

HTH

There’s a mirror button in the Deformation palette that can save you two steps.

Thanks.

There’s still the problem of the mirror happening at the center of the objects instead of the center of the world. Since my details are on the right, the center is also to the right and the mirror doesn’t happen where it should.

Is there an option for that?

Turning off L.Sym should do the trick.

Nope. Local symmetry doesn’t affect mirror (Deformation) or mirror and weld (Geometry tab).

I ended up just creating another subtool way larger than anything else in my scene and place it at 0,0,0. now it works. It’s just weird I need to do that and that I can’t change the direction of mirror and weld… They should add the option.

Do you have a screenshot of your mesh, and where the world center is (/ the center of the top-most subtool?) LSym is doing the job for me.

Actually, now that I’m trying the same thing with the larger subtool in my real scene (instead of the test scene) I’m still getting the problem.

I created the 0,0,0 sphere in max and exported it to zbrush after having done a lot of work in zbrush on the other subtool. Maybe I need to start by importing that sphere and merge the subtools of my gun after…

Here’s an image. I tried mirror (derformations) on the sphere that is perfectly at 0,0,0 and I get the problem. Same with other subtools.

This is what I currently get out of it.

From the last image it looks like the sphere might be offset based on that visible axis indicator. If you open Tool: Geometry: Position, is it zero’d out?

Ah! On closer inspection, it was off to the right by a few millimeters.

I tried creating another big object in max again and made sure it was dead center before exporting and when I got into zbrush, it was still off to the right… there’s a problem with the export of max or the import of zbrush… Very strange.

Also, where can I find “position”? I’ve looked in tool, geometry and I don’t see it.

Thanks
