very stylish and looking forward to your book!
Any news on when the book will be out cannot wait!
Hey guys! Sorry for the really late reply! I’m gonna try to address everyone. For those who are wondering, I’ve been told that the book should hit amazon and other stores on July 1st, so hopefully that will make a few of you happy =). Apologies for the long wait on it =(.
Ljubomir Milic: Thanks man! The face was very fun to do! Kinda came about by accident!
@Masterchokhan: Thanks!
@madmatt: Thanks a ton!
@mikkamakka: Thanks a lot <3.
@CowboyBunny: Hey man thanks! If I remember right, the model took about 2ish months total. It may have taken longer or shorter I can’t quite remember any more! XD It definitely took a long time concepting, because I was concepting in 3d rather than 2d.
The final polycount fully subdivided (wayyy past what I needed for details) was around like 70 million polygons or something close to that. That was because there are many subtools to it. Once I reprojected all of them onto a single subtool it cut this number down to 39.7 million polygons. The Computer I’m using is pretty pedestrian. It’s a core 2 quad 2.6 clocked at 3.0 with 7 gigs of ram. I forget the other specs but they kinda suck.
@freakmean: Thanks a ton! ah the levels of subdivions vary, but for the image posted here there were about 70 million polygons which was trimmed down to 39 million polys using projection and subtool merging.
@askue: Hey man! the book should be coming out July 1st. I really hope it does!
@d-pan: thanks man!
@benjamindeutscher: haha thanks man! There’s one vote =D.
@pixolmad65: Thanks man! it’s always fun to sculpt armor!
@FranEll: Thanks dude! LOL i have no idea ???
@cani: Thanks!
@turbojoys: Thanks man! Thanks not the book. It’s not quite out yet I’m hoping it comes out July 1st.
@mustan9: Thanks! Yeah it was a challenge to hide the brush strokes, but the payoff is good!
cgicore: Hey man should be released july 1st!
@Fluro: Thanks man! Mainly the hPolish brush is to blame for the hard surfaces ;D
@KonginChains: Thanks man! The book should be coming out July 1st
@Stefgrafx: Hey dude. I’m using a core 2 quad 2.4 clocked at 3.0 with 7 gigs of ram. I have 8 gigs but for some reason windows doesn’t recognize the last. everything else is pretty old. the gfx card is 8800gtx and it’s aweful.
@pairoj25xx: Thanks man!
@Fluro: Yes there are quite a few subdivisions on this. about 70 mil polygons.
@askue: hey man. The book comes with 4 hrs of video tutorial as well, demonstrating the technique. If i get some free time in the future i’ll do a quick demo =D
@Zak_Keen: Thanks a ton! the book should be release July 1st!
@cgicore: Hey man; July 1st hopefully!
@claudioclemente: Thanks man! Yeah I didn’t feel that the eva models could hold themselves up as well since they are pretty basic. I wanted to make sure not to overdo it though! I mainly stole the silhouette from them. There are about 70 million polygons in the images you see. The redone model is about 30 million polygons.
@xjun: Thanks a ton!
@malcd: Hey man! the book should be coming out July 1st!
Hope I didn’t miss anybody! Sorry if I did!

I am also eagerly awaiting this book.
Brilliant work! such sharp edges
Any news about the book? please
Working with Pixologix to include ZB4 material and to coincide the release. We are approximately 2 weeks out so very very soon
you bastard. i saw the thumbnail and got excited.
Sorry just wanted to show you the cover, I am still compiling the Invited Artist Gallery section of the book. Mike has done a fantastic job of showing you how to create this Mech Drone step by step, the brushes used and how the create the Alpha Stamps he used to provide the detail.
Wonderful stuff.
I cant wait !!!
Where can you get this book?
Wow. Love the silhouette on the Drone. Great work!
If you want a proper cover for your book, give me a shout! I’ll even do it for free
Thank you for the quick reply mate. Just give us a shout here once the book is released and I would rather the book covering more as well, including zb4 since is just around the corner. THanks.
cant wait to hold this book in my hands…REALLY!!!
…but guys that COVER can´t be serious… the typography is a desaster…spend some bucks to someone who knows what he is doing…PLEASE!
Lol, yeah i hope that isn’t the final cover. Your model is nice, but seriously that text and logo? Hah.
Im pretty sure if you ask nicely anyone could do a good job and make it look nice here at ZBCentral
Hi Mike, Mestophales,
As discussed, i thouhgt I’d send through the kind of approach I might take on your cover… (it’s only crudely roughed out, layering isn’t subtle sorry, tech lines round windows are rubbish, etc… but it’s been a long day already & i’m fit for bed and not much else)
My inclination would be to put some blurb about ‘…latest zbrush techniques’
‘…also featuring artists XXX & YYY… x hours of dvd inside’
And maybe put in a couple more windows/views of other pieces in the book?
Will try and mock up a couple of others over the weekend.
![H's_Cover_Rough_01.jpg|600x782](upload://5TLd7ksHW6wZvxu0Ls8dUeVbNgT.jpeg)I actually like that - what do the rest of you think?
