Matchmaker won't work.

I’m having a small problem with the Matchmaker brush. I have a curved subtool that I want to make straight. I placed a flat cube behind it so that when trying to use the Matchmaker brush I’d be looking right down the X axis as I saw somewhere that Matchmaker only works on the Z axis and only in a direct line with the camera view. I cannot seem to get the Matchmaker brush to have any affect when trying to get the curved subtool to conform to the flat subtool behind it. I’ve included two images of my set-up. Maybe match maker doesn’t flatten curves just curves flat subtools.

Thanks folks,

Ezra

Hi Ezra,

Matchmaker is working. It’s probably just the way that you made that particular piece. It might have been made on a different axis than what you are trying to conform it to. Not exactly sure how it works. If you probably had a straight piece and conformed it to curved piece, it would work. Maybe it doesn’t like pieces that were made with a bend in the negative Z direction. Even if it did work on your piece, I don’t think it would look right anyway, as it pushes evrything straight back. Once you straightened it, it probably would look wonky anyway. I would suggest just making a new piece.

Hey Zber2,

I tend to agree with you that even if it worked it probably wouldn’t look that good so I had already planned on remaking another piece that is straight. That piece is just a part off of a ring that I used to make the beginnings of a drive belt on the bike I’m working on. I actually haven’t used Matchmaker but one other time (unsuccessfully trying to wrap the label onto the beer bottle - bottle was narrower than the label) so my 1st two attempts were both busts. So, I’m really just trying to get my arms around the feature and the condition under what works and what doesn’t.

As always Zber2 thanks for your quick help on these issues.
