Masking goes through object... [Answered]

Ok, this is probably a noob question. I’ve used Zbrush for awhile but still don’t know how to address this. When I mask an object that is particularly thin, the mask selection goes through the object and select the other side as well, which I don’t want. I thought that the solution would be to adjust the backface masking somewhere, but I can’t seem to find out where to affect this control. I’ve tried noodling with the AutoMasking settings in the brush controls window, but that doesn’t seem to help.

I’m sure somebody knows how to address this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

There aren’t any settings to change the BackfaceMask. BackfaceMask does work, but will not work with Rectangle, Circle, Curve and Lasso strokes. With these strokes, you will have to manually erase the masks that are transferred to the other side. It does work with the other stroke types though. If you have to use Circles and Rectangles, you can try using circle and square alphas with the DragRect stroke and flat curve.

It’s doing it with the regular mask pen. I’ll paint out the one side of a thin two-sided object and the mask goes right through to the other side. I could have sworn I watched a tutorial at one point that told you how to set the threshold for this but I can’t remember what control it was.

You sure you turned on BackfaceMask while holding down Ctrl?

LOL… forgot to hold down control. You nailed it! Thanks for the help!
