Once I have created a mask is there a way to move it if it’s in the wrong spot or do I need to start over?
Short answer…no, not easily. You can use “Create Alpha” in the Masking palette to save it, but it requires that the subtool has UV’s applied to it first. It can also be tricky to re-apply it. IMHO, it’s probably easier to just start over. You can use Ctrl+Alt to erase masking if you want to fix a specific area.
Also, you can wait for @Spyndel (resident guru) to login later this week. He might have a better idea.
Ok thank you for the help
For reference here’s the process for saving a mask using an Alpha that @zber2 talked about (4) #AskZBrush - “Is there a way to Save and Load Masking on a Model?” - YouTube
A similar process that doesn’t require UVs is to turn your mask into a polygroup. Then Polypaint from Polygroup. Then Masking: By Color and select Masking option and click and drag from the color swatch onto the color you want to turn into a mask. If you already have polygroups set up then duplicate first. The mask will carry over with the duplicate.
However both these methods will just give you back your mask in its original position.
One possiblility for moving a mask is to duplicate your tool with the mask, turn the mask to polypaint as decribed above, move the duplicate into position over the original so that the polypaint (mask) is positioned as you want, and then project only the color back onto the original. Then turn the color into a mask as described. How well this works depends very much on the complexity of the mask and the surface on which it is painted. In the end it may be easier to redo the mask.
Good Luck.
