My current object takes 354 min to render a displacement map when all my other projects take 1-2 min. I checked my UV’s and i reset my pivot point. I’ve exported as OBJ and re-imported it to try and clean it. I dont see a resolution to this issue on the forum. Greatful for any help.
How many polygons is the model at its highest subdivision level? What size map are you creating? What are your settings in the Tool>Displacement Map menu?
Thank you for replying.
Model is 901,120 Poly. (usual models are 2 mil or so)
Making a 4096K map.
Settings are Adaptive / MODE / and the rest at default.
This mouth is from a full head object. I wanted to get more detail in the lips so I hid all geometry but the lips. deleted hidden. raised to highest sub level and divided some more.
I just repeated this process with a different model and got the same results. Disp map takes a very long time to generate.
I let the disp map generate overnight and then comp’d it into the disp map for the entire head model. The lip disp map is at a different “Strength” than the rest of the model. Different grayscale values and it displaces differently when back in Lightwave.
Here is the model
Try creating the map using DPSubPix 1 instead of Adaptive.
Also, try using Multi Displacement 2 (included with Displacement Exporter) to generate a 32-bit map. That will resolve the problem with the map being a different strength.
both suggestions have worked great. Nice to be back on track. Thank you very much.
EDIT actually the disp maps are still coming out as different strengths. Its no big deal though. I can just subdivide that area of the model a little more than the rest and re-do the work.
